Newest contenders for cinematic critical acclaim will be movies coming up in the next few weeks. The promos of one of them - Jahnu Baruah's "Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara" - are already on air and generating a lot of curiosity.

The film brings together Anupam Kher, Urmila Matondkar, Parvin Dabas, Rajit Kapur, Boman Irani, Sudhir Joshi, Raju Kher, Vishwaas Paandya, Prem Chopra and Waheeda Rehman.

It is a film of an ageing man and his symbolic connection with the father of the nation. Through an engaging story of a retired old man and his daughter in a typical middle class backdrop, the film works out a larger Gandhian symbolism.

"Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara", produced by Anupam Kher himself, has been acquired by mainstream movie major Yashraj Films. After AIDS drama "My Brother Nikhil", this is the second such film to be taken up by the production house.
