Two curses which separated Ram Sita

Lord Vishnu n Ma Laxmi suffered a lot in their incarnation as Ram- Sita. Sumantha

Sita spent greater part of her life in forest. She knew that she'll have to spend greater part of her life in forest. According to Valmiki Ramayan. when she was persuading Ram with eyes full of  tears to take her with him to forest she told him that in her father's house it was heard by her from the mouth of brahmanas (who could predict future by interpreting marks on palm n forehead) that she is destined to stay really in a forest. Before the order of exile she didn't knew how n when these predictions will came true. She was incarnation of Supreme Godesses Laxmi but as she was in human form she didn't knew how n when these words of those predictors will come true.

Ram suffered many pains but remained firm to righteousness. As he was also in human form he didn't knew what will happen in future. Lord Vishnu was cursed twice that he will have to suffer the pain of separation from his Laxmi. Narad cursed Him that that He'll get separated from Laxmi(Sita) for one year. Second curse which separated them from each other in Uttar kand  was given by Rishi Bhrigu (Shukracharya's father). The story behind this curse is that 'once Shukraacharya's mother gave protection to some Demons in her hermitage during a war between Gods n Demons. Lord Vishnu who was fighting on behalf of Suras (Gods) requested her to leave the way n allow him to fight with those Demons. But Shukracharya's mother replied that she won't allow him to kill those Demons as she has promised to protect them. She asked Lord Vishnu to kill her before attacking those demons but Lord Vishnu denied attacking her as she was a woman. She decided to choose death voluntarily instead of leaving her promise unfulfilled. Accordingly she decided to end her life. When Rishi Brighu came to know about this he got angry n cursed Lord Vishnu that he'll have to suffer the pain of separation from his beloved wife in his Ram Avatar.

The above story is mentioned in Uttara kand. Laxman was crying like anything after executing Ram's order to leave his mother-like Sita in forest. He got fainted because of this. When he regained consciousness Sumantra told him that Ram is destined to live in sorrow. He is destined to live away from his loved ones.  This prediction was done by Durvasa Rishi before Dasrath n Vashitha. But Dasrath didn't disclose this fact to anyone n only he (Sumantra) knew this fact. Durvasa Rishi a Trikaal Darshi knew abt Lord Vishnu (Ram) getting cursed by Bhrigu. Durvasa Rishi also told (using his Divine Vision) that circumstances will force Ram to banish Laxman also. Then Sumantra asked Laxman not to disclose this facts before others.

Ram-Sita suffered so much but in return they gave only blessings to others. Shortly after marriage he was banished. He got separated from his parents n bros. In the last year of exile he got separated from his Sita. He regained her n returned Ayodhya. People started critisising Sita's conduct. They made dirty gossips abt her. He decided to leave Sita near Valmiki's hermitage (as that was a very safe place mainly inhabited by scholars from Valmilikis's Gurukul). That was the only way left to him to prove Sita's innocence n chastity before the world n coming generations. He stayed separate from her but didn't break his marriage tie with her. After some years he got her news n his sons. He sent a message to Valmiki requesting him n Sita to return Ayodhya with Luv-Kush. He came to know that still  some people have doubts on her. This time Ram got heartbroken. He once again asked her to give proof of her chastity before the world as he wanted to prove her purity before the whole n future generations beyond any doubt.

Sita took a extreme step. She gave one more pareeksha n proved her purity.
Sita merged herself in earth n made all those dirty minded people feel ashamed of their dirty thoughts.

This act also deters the future generation from disrespecting a chaste woman n making doubts on woman's character.

Ram then requested Mother earth to return Sita or to merge him in her like Sita. Lord Brahma appeared consoled him. He didn't married again as  marriage is a sacrament which remains indissoluble even after the departure of one of the spouse. Thus this time when he met his sons he again got separated from Sita.

Though Brahma Vishnu Mahesh r almighty they accepted curses from their bhakts. And as Tan said in India Bhakts r considered greater than Bhagwan.

Vishnu though almighty accepted curse from inferiors because by doing so he respected "DHARMA". He respected Narad's bhakti. Lord Vishnu is 'BHAKTA VATSAL'. He will do anything for his bhakts even accept their curses.'Dharma' is a concept which is totally diffferent from the concept of religion. Dharma means law, duty, righteouness, purity n so many things. Even almighty God never tried to violate 'dharma'. But if the bhakt felt that He violated they cursed n God accepted it as a mark of respect towards the bhakt.
We often thought that that there was nothing like "rule of law in India" before tha arrival of British. But it was India which first eliminated "arbitrary rule of men ". We had a more developed concept callled "RULE OF  DHARMA". Our SMRITIS declares that there is nothing above DHARMA which is King of kings.
As Vishnu is protector of Dharma in earth he readily accepted curse from his inferiors if  they felt that He violated it.

This is all the Lord'S Leela. The Lord wanted to show this to his devotees that even HE in a human form, can live like that, so that WE all get the courage to follow in the similar suit. The Lord has given us standard to follow, it is hard but if you have Bhakti and Dharma, the LORD will make it easy for you.

Also, coolpurvi, India was not called India before the british rule. It was called Bharat varsh and before that, Araya varsh. The was no "British" that time. I would believe Lord Ram would of ruled most of the world, that time. Edited by diva823 - 16 years ago

By 'India' I meant Bharat Varsh only n not any other country. I said that we often think that jurisprudential concept  like  "Rule of Law"  n 'Natural Justice' are  concepts borrowed from west  but  lakhs  years ago  we had  a  more  developed concept in  our ancient jurisprudence  called  DHARMA  RAJYA  (rule  of  Dharma  and not of men). Concept of Dharma Rajya says that the Ruler should rule according to DHARMA which means righteousness, ethics.  The  Ruler should have more concern for his Duties than his Rights. A ruler who rules tyrannically  is a ADHARMI  ruler  who deserves to be punished by Almighty. A Ruler must not rule arbitrarily according to his will. He must observe DHARMA as it is King of kings.
