Sahir Ludhianvi's is my favourite poet.To common man he is known as a film lyricist, and perhaps a romantic poet. Here i want to talk about some his lyrics from two movies in which he has spoken clearly about his sentiments which are still a sort of landmark in pacifist poetry. We see every single day blood shed, voilence and so forth..and these two songs really say a lot....
one of his poems that was used in the film "Taj Mahal", released in 1963. Although the film itself had the legendary love of Shah JahaaN and Mumtaz Mahal as its theme, this poem is an intrinsic part of the narrative, set to haunting music by the late maestro Roshan.
KHudaa-e-bartar, teri zameeN par zameeN ki KHaatir yeh jaNg kyoN hai
Har ek fat'h-o-zafar ke daaman pe KHoon-e-insaaN ka raNg kyoN hai
ZameeN bhi teri, haiN hum bhi tere, yeh milkeeyat ka sawaal kya hai
Yeh qatl-o-KHooN ka rivaaj kyoN hai, yeh rasm-e-jaNg-o-jadaal kya hai
GHareeb maaoN, shareef behnoN ko amn-o-'izzat ki zindagi de
JinheN 'ata ki hai tu ne taaqat, unheN hidaayat ki raushni de
SiroN men kibr-o-GHuroor kyoN hai
DiloN ke sheeshe pe zaNg kyoN hai
Qaza ke raste pe jaane waaloN ko bach ke aane ki raah dena
DiloN ke gulshan ujaR na jaayeN, mohabbatoN ko panaah dena
JahaaN men jashn-e-wafa ke badle
Yeh jashn-e-teer-o-tufaNg kyoN hai
KHudda-e-bartar, teri zameeN par zameeN ki KHaatir yeh jaNg kyoN hai
2. and the second one is from movie "hum dono'in this he had voiced the same sentiments in a
bhajan And the bhajan is :
Allah tero naam, ishwar tero naam
Sab ko sanmati de bhagwaan
Is dharti ka roop na ujRe
Pyaar ki ThanDi dhoop na ujRe
Sab ko mile daata sukh ka vardaan
Sab ko sanmati de bhagwaan
MaaNgoN ka sindoor na chhooTe
Maa'behnoN ki aas na TooTe
Deh bina daata bhaTkeN na praan
Sab ko sanmati de bhagwaan
O saare jag ke rakhwaale
Nir'bal ko bal dene waale
BalwaanoN ko de de gyaan
Sab ko sanmati de bhagwaan
Allah tero naam, ishwar tero naam......
