Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders are all set to lock horns in Match 10 of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 

This will be RCB’s third match in IPL 2024, while KKR will play their second match.

What better fixture to closely follow, a game that has redefined the limits of what's possible than the one that opened that particular window of imagination 16 years ago?

 Pore through RCB-KKR history or simply glance over the two squads and there is promise of big runs, even though the freshly-prepared surfaces at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium may not be at their conducive best just yet to help reclaim the IPL record lost to Hyderabad two nights ago.

 RCB, who suffered a loss to CSK in the season opener, came back with a roaring win in their second game against Punjab Kings at home and opened their account in the points table. Star batter Virat Kohli played a match-winning knock of 77 runs to guide his team to victory. 

Dinesh Karthik's quick-fire, unbeaten knock of 28 runs off 10 balls sealed the game for the Bengaluru-based franchise.

Meanwhile, KKR, coming off a narrow win in their season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad, aim to maintain their momentum and strengthen their position early in the mega event. 

Strong West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell reminded everyone why he is one of the most dangerous T20 batters in the world with his brilliant 64-run knock. 

Young Harshit Rana held his nerve till the very last and bowled a brilliant final over to win the game for his team by four runs. 

Klaasen & Co. are the talk of the tournament in the first week of IPL 2024 but the Knight Riders did outhit them in Kolkata. 

They'll have reason to believe, with a little assistance from the top order, there's plenty more where that came from. That said, RCB were particularly canny with the ball in their win over Punjab Kings and made good use of a slightly tacky surface with their tall, hit-the-deck bowlers. 

And if there is a chink in KKR's band of heavy hitters, it is that a few of them could be susceptible to the short ball.

Watch out also for a battle of dexterity within the larger framework of this context. KKR have as many as four left-handers in their top six while RCB have a right-heavy top order.

 And therefore Glenn Maxwell, whose big batting show is awaited in the competition, may just end up having an equally important role to play in the other innings as one of two all-rounder's in a six-man attack.

Batting coach Neil Mckenzie confirmed that it is a line of thinking that will continue as RCB look to reassure their power players to take positive options knowing there's enough batting to come.

Regardless of the win, the middle order once again faltered for RCB which has to be rectified if RCB aspire to make the playoffs this season.

Kolkata Knight Riders went head to head against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening game and it turned out to be an absolute spectacle as Andre Russell exploded and scored 64 off 25 balls as KKR posted 208 runs on the scoreboard. Heinrich Klaasen responded with 63 off 29 balls as KKR won the game by four runs. As per our calculations, RCB are slight favourites in the upcoming fixture.
