Delhi Capitals (DC) will look to become the first team to book their playoff spots when they face UP Warriorz (UPW) in the fifteenth match of Womenโ€™s Premier League (WPL) 2024 on Friday (March 8) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Meg Lanning-led DC, who top the WPL points table thanks to five wins in a row, are fresh from a 29-run victory over Mumbai Indians, while Alyssa Healyโ€™s fourth-placed UPW were handed their second successive defeat by MI in their last encounter, which took place just under 24 hours ago.

DC need a win to confirm their berth in the playoffs for the second successive season, while UPW will need a win to keep their hopes alive, having already played 6 matches this season, including the reverse fixture against the Delhi-based side, who won in Bengaluru last month.

DEL-W vs UP-W: Head-to-Head: DEL-W (3) โ€“ UP-W (0)

These two teams have played a total of three games so far in the WPL. Delhi have won all three matches so far, including one this season.

DEL-W vs UP-W: Weather Report

It will be another good evening with a temperature of around 14ยฐC in Delhi. The humidity level will be 75%, which is more than normal and the wind speed will be around 13 km/h.

DEL-W vs UP-W: Pitch Report

Arun Jaitley Stadium is a good scoring venue, as the ball travels well here because of the fast outfield. This season has seen shorter boundaries, which makes it even tougher for the bowlers. Batting first and scoring big runs is an ideal scenario to win.

DC has emerged as a formidable force in WPL 2024, boasting a stellar record of four victories in five matches, all but guaranteeing themselves a coveted spot in the upcoming playoffs.

On the flip side, UP Warriorz find themselves at the fourth spot in the points table, having suffered a setback with a recent defeat against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), accumulating four points from five matches

DC's primary objective is to clinch the top position, thereby ensuring a direct qualification for the final, a remarkable achievement they accomplished in the preceding season. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz have set their sights on winning a minimum of two out of their remaining three matches to secure a playoff berth for the second consecutive year.

The match promises a thrilling encounter as both teams strive to fulfill their respective playoff ambitions in the highly competitive landscape of the WPL 2024 season. Fans can expect a clash of skill, strategy, and determination as these teams vie for supremacy on the cricketing stage.

Team News:

Delhi Capitals: The current combination is playing just perfectly for DC, even as that would require them to leave out the likes of Annabel Sutherland, Poonam Yadav and Minnu Mani in the reserves.

UP Warriorz: The Alyssa Healy-led side has been largely productive in the bowling department, but needs an inspirational uplift in batting. Chamari Aththapathu hasn't been able to provide that firepower with the bat eventhough she has been effective with the ball. There would be a temptation to play Danni Wyatt in the hope of giving some freshness in the batting.

What they said:

This next game in Delhi against Delhi is a massive game for us as a team. We haven't won against them as yet in this competition. We need to work on the right formula to take them down. Hopefully, we can - Jon Lewis, UPW head coach, following the loss against RCB

"Wasn't the easiest of wickets, but was suitable for my type of batting. Learning from my past mistakes, was trying to go out there and be explosive. I went back after the Test match, worked on a few things coming into the WPL. Using the crease, timing the ball well, that was the game plan - Jemimah Rodrigues, DC batter, following her match-winning effort against MI

UP Warriorz concerns aren't as much in batting and bowling as with their fielding, having dropped 12 catches so far in six games to go with misfields, missed stumpings and overthrows. With limited turnover time to practice under lights, that's an issue they could carry even in the next games, along with a morale-sapping defeat against the defending champions.

It's not do-or-die as yet, but to leave the hope of RCB coming second-best against the two best teams in the last two games wouldn't be an ideal scenario for them. And for that, they would need to do much better than their insipid performance on Thursday
