The excitement is at its peak and hundreds of cricketers and countless fans from all over the world will be on the edge of their seats when the paddle will go up and the hammer will change the fortunes of many players in the IPL 2023 mega auctions, being held on today at Kotchi. 

The marquee set was started and then followed by a full round of capped players by specialties - batsmen, all-rounders, wicket Keeper/batsmen, fast Bowlers, and spin bowlers and then move into a full specialism round of uncapped players.

The stage is all set for IPL’s mini-auction that will take place today in a short while at Kochi. The mini-auction will hand all 10 franchises an opportunity to reset as the IPL is slated for a full-fledged home and away season for the first time since 2019. 

A total of 87 slots are open, which includes 57 slots which will be allotted to Indian players. While there are big names like Ben Stokes and Sam Curran who can set the bidding race on fire, the focus will also be on uncapped Indian players as they might also go for many in this auction.

The IPL auction 2023 will feature 405 cricketers, of which 273 are Indians and 132 overseas – they have set themselves a base price varying from INR 20 lakh (the minimum) to INR 2 crore.

The top bracket, of INR 2 crore, comprises of 19 cricketers, none of whom is an Indian. The list consists of three from Australia, eight from England, three from New Zealand, two from South Africa, and two from the West Indies. The INR 1.5 crore slab, too, consists only of overseas cricketers – five Australians, a Bangladeshi, four Englishmen, and a West Indian.

The most expensive Indian cricketers, Mayank Agarwal and Manish Pandey, have set themselves a one-crore price tag. 

They are also the only Indians above the 50-lakh mark. In fact, apart from the two mentioned above, there are only 21 others above INR 20 lakh – 17 at INR 50 lakh, one at 40 lakh, three at 30 lakh.

A group of 20 Australians will go to sleep on Friday night and could potentially wake-up millionaires as they go under the hammer at the IPL Auction (from 8pm AEDT).

The Australian contingent started the day at 21 strong, but has since dropped by one after Ben McDermott opted to pull out.

The Hobart Hurricanes opener had nominated at a reserve price of INR 50 lakh (approx. $A90,000), but according to local reports, he withdrew in the hours before the auction.
