I think Maalti and Devi are more generic. Also, this brings me to another point.
There are two major trends that I have observed when it comes to naming babies these days which are at the two extreme ends of each other.
One is offcourse the more βglobalβ sounding names which have been in trend for a few years now and the counter trend which is more recent is going back to the roots, loving the traditional, bringing back what was considered old fashioned or stale. I have come across a lot of couples choosing these typical traditional Indian names for their kids. A phenomenon more popular in Indians living abroad as they want to feel more connected to their roots.
I am open to unique names and also traditional names but when parents give their kids a very hard to pronounce traditional name in a foreign country it never goes well for that child. They either resort to coming up with a nickname or struggling with it lifelong. Parents feel good about what name they have given their child but the kid has to live with it forever and especially in western countries your name is so important itβs used everywhere.
