Didn't knew that valuing your family is equivalent to be regressive

Every filmmaker that uses his heroines to project them as mere objects to be ogled at or be treated like a private property by the hero is regressive. And unfortunately there are plethora of these.

Sooraj Barjatya or Bhansali do not fall under that category.

Sooraj Barjatya is indeed regressive. Marriage is most important thing in life . They have dialogues like " Ghar woh hota hai jaha ladke kaam kare aur bahu-betiyan pyaar se Khana banaye" (HSSH)๐Ÿ˜‚. The three women are evil that's why they're unmarried. etc etc

Amused how people are defending Barjatya, Chopras and Bhansali here.

Their female leads have NO other work or education or aim in life except getting married to a rich man.

They have hardly shown working or independent women. Or even nuclear families. They mostly show joint families and even their men seem to have no aim in life except getting married, usually to a girl from comparatively poor background.

What was education of Madhuri, Sridevi and Kajol in DTPH, Chandni, Lamhe, DDLJ? In fact Sridevi takes up job only to escape depression post break up with Rishi. And her boss is shown falling for her.

Barjatya shows women having no aim in life except getting married to a rich man and bearing male heir. He has never shown working women or even first born child who is a girl. It is always munna. Not gudia or munni.

Even Tabu who is MBA from London in HSSH, leaves it to become silent housewife at a rich man's house. Nobody knows what Sonali does in HSSH. She is mostly home. As a doctor she has only one scene of being at delivery room for her bhabhi. And his films have dialogues like women should cook and feed men. As if men have no role at home at all.

His films never show problematic men. Only show women as root cause of all problems at home. Or have regressive shit like ek ladka aur ladki kabhi dost ni ho sakte or 'modern' woman as vamp and gaon ki Bhagyashree as sanskari wife material in MPK.

Karan Johar is another PoS whose female characters have hardly any aim in life except to get married and woman has to get makeover or look feminine to be desirable or else she is jhalli or a boy. He and Adi Chopra glorified Karva Chauth for even unmarried youth who have crush on each other. Wife touching feet of husband, kids tolerating even abusive parents silently.

Adi Chopra behaves as if schools, colleges and academies should have nothing else except students waiting to get laid and teachers getting them to hook up. No need to study or do actual work that you got admission at your institution for.

If this is not regressive then what is? Bhansali always shows women in love with same man and willing to share him. Or loving even toxic men like Devdas. Black is the only film where his female lead has a degree. Otherwise his women are mostly aimless or itching to love another married man.

David Dhawan's movies are highly regressive in my opinion. In his movies men fall for women and marry them only for sex. Women are also shown quite dumb in his movies.

I don't remember the name of the film maker who directed the movie Raja Hindustani. He had made couple more movies and all his movies were damn regressive.

lol Bhatt mahashay did not even make the list. He's the guy who makes movies portraying women as sex objects. Meanwhile, someone like Barjatya who makes family friendly dramas is regressive. Very progressive.๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿ˜†

Hirani hardly has roles for woman

If your being very authentic about this why not criticize Kabir Khan who made 83 without her woman ๐Ÿ˜†

Suraj is more traditional than regressive. His movies have ideal families which is more like his aspirations than reality.

Some of the dialogues could be problematic. But female characters in his movies are good people and thereโ€™s nothing wrong in being good. He also has educated female leads, mostly helping father or father in law in the business. Ideal scenario but still that canโ€™t be called regressive.

The most regressive is Inder Kumar and his type of stalking female n falling in love movies where female is Dil ki saaf but akal se pedal. Indian TV has same problem.

I also find women objectification very regressive.

Subhash Ghai ?

Actually every director who made a movie where a woman forgives a man for anything can be put into this
