No matter how much V tries to change himself for D, the fact is he will be the dominating person in their relationship and expecting her to bow down eventually once they unite and go family way.
I think sometimes the need for someone is too big that people suppress certain aspects of their personality, even if they are not happy about it.
V might want to change but in the end D will also be unwilling to give him a chance, about which she will be right in her place.
