For Fun (I hope): Vijay versus Raghav score-card

Vijay and Raghav detest each other, but who has more reasons to resent the other?

My recollection is that Vijay has said offensive things (e.g. that Raghav's parents should be ashamed of him), and Raghav has caused more tangible harm (e.g. stress leading to heart attack). Yet the show has characters telling Vijay to respect his dāmāda and giving Raghav credit for Pallavi's actions that were opposed by Raghav (justice for Mandar's hit-and-run, taking care of Mandar), and characters have stopped reminding Raghav to respect his sasurajī.

Let's make a list of all the times they have offended each other.

This is meant to be from Vijay's point of view and Raghav's point of view, not whether an action was justified or misunderstood. So, for example, Vijay's refusing to donate blood to save Raghav's life doesn't count because Raghav has never reacted to that. And Raghav's trying to bulldoze Vijay's shop, planting skimpy clothes to drive away customers, lodging a bogus complaint with the weavers' association, blacklisting his business for mall showrooms, trying to evict him illegally, and trying to stop payment on a check that Pallavi spent on Vijay's life-saving medical treatment don't count as long as the writers make it clear that Vijay didn't find out.

Occasions on which Vijay offended Raghav

  1. Vijay confronted Raghav for keeping people waiting outside the temple, and the crowd charged past Raghav, who suffered an attack of claustrophobia and lost his chance to bribe a major customs officer.
  2. Vijay told Raghav that he was especially not welcome at Manasi's maṅganī because he disrespects women.
  3. Vijay came to Raghav's house to confront him about trespassing in Pallavi's bedroom, and told him to stay away from her, keep his indecency to himself, and not dare to trifle with Vijay's reputation.
  4. Vijay slapped Farhad to tell Raghav to stay away, after Dr. Kanika confirmed an abortion by Pallavi.
  5. Vijay slapped Raghav for saying that he paid Pallavi for sex.
  6. Vijay handed Raghav a wedding gift for his wife: the shop keys and business registration. Vijay swore that he would take his last breath but not look at that shop - his ruined dream, because he has self-respect. (Vijay said nothing impolite, but his self-sacrifice offended Raghav, who reacted by stealing the keys from Pallavi.)
  7. Vijay said to Raghav that he has no son-in-law, and he would rather die than accept water from Raghav. He wanted no advice from Raghav who makes dirty money and picks pockets.
  8. Vijay insincerely welcomed Raghav as his son-in-law, calling himself a humble servant awaiting punishment. Vijay wasn't impressed by the video of Sulochana admitting some unspecified implication of Kirti and Jaya, and ordered Raghav to leave. "Will you stand here shamelessly until I push you out?" Vijay refused to believe Raghav's retraction because Pallavi had proved his accusations by marrying him. Vijay did not believe that anyone but Raghav had beaten Sulochana; Sulochana tells lies, but "I will believe anyone in the world before I believe you."
  9. Vijay slapped Raghav for destroying the loan papers, and said that Raghav should have been killed at birth; shame on the parents who produced such a beast.
  10. Vijay barged into Raghav's house, shouted at him, called Raghav a criminal and threw a letter at him, accusing him of sending Vijay to jail and getting him released to impress Jaya and Pallavi. Vijay got an apology from Jaya, tried to take Pallavi home, and promised to send Raghav to jail.
  11. Vijay called Raghav shameless and said that he would rather die than have any relationship with him and his wife. Vijay tried to call Raghav's bluff that he would do absolutely anything to earn forgiveness for Pallavi: "Wash my feet and drink the water. Your ego is so big that you'll let someone die but not bow your head." Vijay said that Raghav hadn't done anything for his own parents, who are rightly insulted for producing such an abomination to humanity.
  12. Vijay said that Pallavi licks her own spit, calling her a liar who had said she wouldn't set foot in his house (actually, she had said she had every right to visit Sharada and Milind), and refused to believe Raghav's retraction of his confession to the hit-and-run, guessing that Raghav paid Sunny Dhvani to confess.
  13. Vijay begged Pallavi to come and stay with Mandar, and Raghav thought Vijay was as fake as Mandar's illness.
  14. Vijay refused to let Raghav into the room where Pallavi was sleeping, saying, "Your wife doesn't want to meet anyone but her first husband; what right do you have to go to her? She's this family's daughter-in-law now!"
  15. Sharada informed Raghav that Vijay had prevented Pallavi from going to him when he was drunk at the door, and Vijay had made Pallavi swear not to leave until Mandar was well.
  16. Vijay promised to repay Raghav as soon as possible for his money spent on Sharada's life-saving surgery.
  17. Vijay shouted that whenever anyone connected to Raghav (e.g. Sunny, invited by Mandar) visits his house, there's a ruckus. He asked Jaya to leave with Kirti and never return.
  18. Vijay cursed Pallavi and Raghav for driving Mandar to crime, not valuing his love or giving him a chance, and enjoying his ruin. However, when Vijay called Raghav beṭā, Raghav began to address him as āpa.

Occasions on which Raghav offended Vijay

  1. Raghav kicked over a barricade, lunged at Pallavi, and shouted at her to "Get lost!" outside the temple.
  2. Raghav entered Vijay's home uninvited and fell on top of Pallavi, causing a scandal and ruining the surprise for Manasi's sagāī. He announced himself as the new landlord of the shop, of which Pallavi had not informed Vijay.
  3. Raghav accepted Sulochana's invitation to Manasi's wedding events after Vijay told him he was not welcome.
  4. Raghav was seen putting his hands around Pallavi's torso in her bedroom (after she told him to leave), causing a confrontation of in-laws-to-be at Manasi's maṅganī.
  5. Raghav invited Pallavi to meet him at his home while he was indecently dressed, and Vijay saw him following her outside like that.
  6. Raghav suggested that Vijay suspected Pallavi of lying, advised him to get her married soon, made fun of Vijay's age and health, and told Reddy to escort Vijay out and close the gate. Raghav slapped money into Vijay's hand, telling Vijay that money can buy reputation, and Vijay's daughter belongs at his feet with the other girls who chase him.
  7. Raghav continued to meet Pallavi at his own home and at Vijay's home in defiance of Vijay, and Raghav's order of handmade pouches was Pallavi's excuse to defy Vijay too. Raghav demanded to talk "personally" to Pallavi and was seen with a handprint of haḷadī on his shirt afterwards.
  8. Vijay saw that Raghav had used his bracelet to print his initials in mehandī on Pallavi’s hand. Vijay heard from Pallavi that Raghav had accidentally left his bag with her, at which point Pallavi suddenly fainted and was suspected of being pregnant.
  9. Vijay felt offended that Raghav was going around serving food and chatting like a family member.
  10. Vijay learned in quick succession that Pallavi "forgot her saree at Raghav's house last night," that Pallavi's closing the shop during the day (to do a sketch of Lion), and getting arrested (for the explosive car) had something to do with Raghav, and that Pallavi was awarded Rs. 60,000 in a saree competition due to Raghav's favouritism.
  11. Raghav was seen talking to Pallavi on an empty road at night after both of them left Manasi's saṃgīta.
  12. Raghav shook Vijay by the collar, called him a crazy sixty-year-old, and threatened him.
  13. Vijay believed Pallavi's impression that Raghav's giving money to Dr. Kanika for her favour was for the abortion defamation.
  14. In front of Manasi's future husband and mother-in-law, Raghav said that someone in Vijay's house had an abortion, mocked Pallavi for coming to his house every day, accused the whole family of trying to blackmail him to pay for Manasi's wedding, and threatened them with a lifetime of lawsuits. The Gaurī pūjā didn't take place due to Raghav's intrusion.
  15. Raghav called Manasi's future husband and mother-in-law (and Krishna) to Dr. Kanika's office to expose Amruta's abortion and Sulochana's defamation of Pallavi. As a result, Manasi's wedding was called off, Milind's marriage almost ended, and Amruta was humiliated by gossip.
  16. Raghav illegally cleared out Vijay's shop for his own photo shoot, paid off models to disrupt Manasi's work, trespassed in Vijay's house to harass Kirti, bragged that what he spent was more than the price of Vijay's home, and broke Manasi's camera (a birthday gift from Vijay).
  17. Raghav announced in front of Vijay's family and friends that he had traded Vijay's shop to Pallavi for sexual favours, that Pallavi was lying about the shop's accounts, and that she had given him the shop's original agreement to register the business in her own name. Raghav put his arm around Pallavi, held her hands, and talked about touching her when they're alone, their preference for casual sex, and pet names. Raghav called Vijay "Sanakī Uncle" and threw money at Pallavi for "our 19-20 nights together." He showed obscene photographs and said that Pallavi was in them. Raghav destroyed Vijay's trust in Pallavi and caused Vijay to contemplate suicide and have a heart attack.
  18. Pallavi informed Vijay that Raghav had harassed her, kidnapped her, terrorized her, threatened her, and tried to kill her.
  19. Raghav scapegoated Nikhil for his own smuggling and kept him in jail overnight, while Vijay was calling for him from his hospital bed.
  20. Raghav married Pallavi in haste, which confirmed Vijay's belief that Pallavi was greedy and strained his marriage to Sharada, who believed that rākṣasa Raghav had forced Pallavi.
  21. Raghav called Vijay "Sanakī Buḍḍhā, Sanakī Sasura," and Vijay and Pallavi "egoistic bunch of crazy people," mockingly asked Vijay if he came to bless Pallavi, pretended to invite him in, but told him to wait at the door.
  22. Raghav mocked Vijay for selling sarees on the roadside after giving his business to Pallavi, saying "Sanakī Sasura ... I like your craziness. ... I swear, this old man's craziness increases day by day. ... Talking to you won't win me any national award. ... If you work like this, you'll be cremated tonight. ... You're no different from your daughter. You sit on the roadside but show attitude as if you own a multi-storey showroom. ... No wonder your shop was in a loss for the past two years; you and your daughter don't have a paisā of business sense, but the attitude of a business tycoon." Raghav bragged about being Hyderabad's biggest business magnate and lining up fifty awards because he doesn't waste time making speeches like Vijay and just works in silence. (Oh, the irony in this very scene!) Raghav continued his lecture, "Next time, show your ego, attitude, and lecture when you've reached my level in business. ... Eating my biscuits won't kill you. I'm telling you for your own good. Ego is a person's worst enemy, Sanakī Sasurajī. Retract your glare. Remember!"
  23. Sulochana, bruised all over, told Vijay that Raghav had beaten her. Just then, Raghav barged in to say, "Whatever I told you about Pallavi was false; she did nothing wrong, but I accused her. This Baḍā Bindī caused a misunderstanding, so I got angry and spoke." Raghav did not say he was sorry for hurting Pallavi's family, nor make it clear that he stole the business registration, he tricked Pallavi into accepting the shop, and he was in the obscene photographs with a different woman, nor did Raghav admit fault for having Nikhil arrested to force Pallavi into marriage. Instead, Raghav showed a video of Sulochana saying that she implicated Kirti and Jaya (in what, she didn't say) for revenge on Raghav and Pallavi, and shouted, "Vijay Deshmukh! I'm fixing my mistakes. I proved the truth that your daughter is blameless." Raghav poked Vijay in the chest and told him to call Pallavi and admit that "you people made a lot of mistakes with her." Raghav shouted, "Sanakī Buḍḍhe! ... You don't deserve her. ... You crazy bunch of egoistic people."
  24. Raghav rented a room in the house occupied by Vijay and his family, video-called Pallavi to watch Vijay and Sharada, invited Pallavi over, helped himself to an apple, and called out, "Sanakī Uncle, I mean Sasurajī!" Although Raghav conceded that Vijay's not wanting him there wasn't wrong, promised never to trouble him, and offered to forget enmity for a fresh start, Vijay assumed that Raghav was conspiring with Pallavi for revenge.
  25. Raghav grabbed the loan papers out of Vijay's hands, refused to explain, and ripped them in half. He assaulted Vijay and threatened to make him a beggar on the road. Sharada fell at Raghav's feet, begging him to spare Vijay from a third heart attack, and Raghav shoved Milind on his way out.
  26. Vijay was taken to jail when police found a necklace from Raghav's showroom in a bag that Raghav handed to him.
  27. Raghav shouted at Vijay, "Is there a defect in your family's bloodline?" Raghav expected thanks from Vijay and warned him, "Don't make me return to my old ways, or you won't be seen in Hyderabad! Even God can't stop Raghav Rao! What can you do?" Vijay felt humiliated when Pallavi sided with Raghav.
  28. Raghav scolded Vijay, "You're ignoring that if I hadn't gotten you out of jail, you would still be there," and promised to outdo his stubbornness and not leave the house. When Manasi said that Pallavi is responsible for her cancelled wedding, Raghav still didn't say he was sorry; he called Manasi "Choṭā Bindī" (ridiculing her for being unmarried), accused her of cheating her best friend Pallavi, and said that Vijay is crazy but "you're intelligent; you can see my efforts to make things normal." Raghav shouted at "Sanakī Buḍḍhā" that his demand was too dramatic, and threatened him, but then grabbed his arm and ordered him to sit.
  29. Raghav called Milind, who said, for Vijay's benefit, "I can do anything for you; now my family is only you."
  30. Raghav arrived late for Mandar's birthday memorial pūjā, didn't offer sesame seeds to the fire, and walked out early.
  31. Raghav kept Mandar's engagement ring after the hit-and-run, and didn't try to find Mandar. Pallavi told Sharada and Milind about it on Mandar's birthday, but Vijay only found out two days later, from Sulochana, that Raghav was hiding his involvement in Mandar's "death."
  32. Raghav surrendered himself and the car that he had hidden for two years and seven months, implying that he had injured Mandar and left him to die.
  33. Raghav, who had concealed evidence and committed witness tampering (it's unclear if Vijay knows that Raghav paid Vipul Kadam to lie) and perjury to obstruct justice so that Kirti could get away with homicide of Mandar, smiled as Milind thanked him for solving the case, which Pallavi had done alone and against Raghav's wishes. Raghav called Vijay "Sanakī Buḍḍhā" for not believing Pallavi's conclusion to Mandar's case, and told him to see a psychiatrist.
  34. Raghav insisted that Mandar would take a DNA test, mocked Mandar's brain injury by calling him "Binā Address Envelope," and shoved him.
  35. When Mandar was finally coaxed out of his room and persuaded to eat one bite, Raghav intruded, shouted at Pallavi, shoved Vijay, mocked Mandar for believing that Vijay is his father without a DNA test, called Mandar "Binā Address Envelope," and grabbed his shoulder.
  36. Raghav gatecrashed the Satya-Nārāyaṇa pūjā intended for Mandar's peace of mind, scolded Sulochana that it was pāpa to invite Pallavi without her husband, and threatened to shoot her.
  37. Raghav refused to let Pallavi go for Mandar's recovery. Vijay got on his knees, begging Raghav to overlook all his offences just once, to save his son's life, and promising to wash Raghav's feet and drink the water, or do anything, but Raghav stood over him unmoved, and said, "You want to wash my feet? Wash them, and then I'll think about it." Raghav accused Vijay and Mandar of faking the illness.
  38. Raghav disrupted the Maṅgalā Gaura by shouting at Mandar that he would kill him, shouting at Sulochana, assaulting Mandar, accusing "Binā Address Envelope" of lying, calling Vijay "Sanakī Buḍḍhā," shoving him, smashing a glass vase and threatening to kill Vijay with it, and cutting Mandar's arm.
  39. Raghav drunkenly shouted to Pallavi outside Vijay's house, openly saying what should have been private: "You broke my trust ... I love you ... Raghav will die without you ... this Ghamaṇḍī Rāva is nothing without his Sārī kā Dukāna ... you're a traitor, a liar ... this is good revenge for the pain I caused you!" Raghav smashed a bottle of liquor on the front steps.
  40. Raghav grabbed Pallavi's wrist to take her away forcibly, claiming that "Binā Address Envelope" had forced her to ask for a divorce. Raghav attacked Mandar, threatening to kill him. (Vijay may or may not know that Raghav previously attacked Mandar three times: pointing a gun into his ambulance; ripping his shirt; pointing a gun at him over the divorce papers.) Raghav threatened Pallavi that she would pay dearly.
  41. Raghav disguised as Svapnil made Pallavi uncomfortable with a heart-shaped gesture, served momo before modaka, and fumigated Mandar's face while bills were stolen from his room. (Vijay may or may not know that Raghav spilled soup on Mandar's hand.) Ludicrously, when Raghav shot a gun at Mandar across a crowd of family and friends at Janmāṣṭamī, not using a silencer, and then stood pointing the gun in full view of Mandar, Manasi, Kirti, and Sunny, nobody seemed to notice, including Vijay.
  42. Raghav revealed Svapnil's identity to Mandar with a pejorative reference to Vijay: "Terā bāpa!" Raghav kicked and punched Mandar, pointed a gun at him, and told him, "You're not fit to be called a Deshmukh! Your life is over!"
  43. Raghav informed Vijay of an office job, for which Sharada, Amruta, and Sulochana pressured Vijay to apply. Then Vijay found out that Raghav had hired him to manage accounts, even though Vijay didn't know how to use a computer. Raghav sat down across the desk from Vijay and didn't greet him.
  44. Vijay was seized and patted down by police officers investigating Raghav's illegal business.
  45. Raghav barged into the kitchen, asked Sharada to come because Pallavi wasn't all right, and left without a word of explanation to Vijay. Vijay had to hear from Milind that Pallavi was in critical condition at home, not in a hospital.
  46. After Vijay saw Raghav's money going to charity, he forgot all about Raghav's history of offences and only blamed him for Mandar being in jail. Vijay didn't seem to mind that when he brought peḍhe to congratulate Raghav, Raghav didn't distribute them, or offer one to Vijay, or see Vijay out. Raghav was late for his and Pallavi's Satya-Nārāyaṇa pūjā; Vijay later found out that the woman with whom Raghav arrived late was his partner in adultery.
  47. Sumit and ACP Laxmi entered Vijay's house, accused him of lying about Raghav hiding a prisoner there, and assaulted Milind. Vijay later found out that this harassment was related to Raghav's adultery.
  48. Pallavi, speechless and covered in mud, took refuge at Vijay's house for Divāḷī; Vijay found out that Pallavi didn't want to talk to Raghav due to his ex-girlfriend.
  49. Raghav shouted, lunged, and raised his hand at his ex-girlfriend who divulged his adultery in front of Vijay.
  50. Pallavi told Vijay that Raghav sent a man to molest her so that Raghav could play hero. Vijay disappeared before Raghav's arrest for rape.

well I don’t remember the dialogues but Raghav barged into Mansi’s Sangeet claiming to be their new shop owner.. Vijay asked him to leave saying that he invited only close friends and relatives in his family function… Sulochana came to his defence… then Raghav danced with Pallavi and found alone in her room by Asha .. Mansi’s would be Mother in law… Vijay went to Raghav’s home to warn him to stay away from Pallavi and Raghav in return taunt him …I don’t remember the exact exchange but that was the second occasion when they were at each other throats…

Thank you so much for participating, nikkiGarg. I was going to refresh my memory of what exactly happened (it was Manasi's maṅganī; the saṃgīta took place after Sharada's mother died), but then I wrote "Delivery Boy - a Fan Fiction" to satisfy my need for some progress between Vijay and Raghav. (I'm a Newbie, so I can't post links, but you can find the story through my profile if you wish to read it.) So, please excuse my delay in acknowledging your reply, and I've partially updated the lists above.

Does anyone else remember anything?

Incidents are many.. for example Raghav was again at their house during Haldi to talk to Pallavi and Sulochana made it look like that Pallavi has applied Haldi to Raghav…and declared the same in front of everyone causing Vijay to get furiated… though Raghav was not directly involved but he got angry because of him…

same is Mehndi ceremony.. Raghav was literally pulled in by Sulochana and after spotting his mother , he started servinh food to guests … vijay was again pissed off but calmed down by millind… and then he spotted RR symbol imprinted by mehndi on Pallavi’s palm..

after that he got to know that Pallavi was at Raghav’s place at the night of holi and Raghav cheated for Pallavi so that she can win the competition…

and then we have abortion drama…where he literally slapped Farhad and both of them gone in an altercation in hospital.. and then Raghav revealed the truth in front of Mansi’s would be in-laws

and then the final straw when Raghav claimed that he and pallavi had an affair…

You're right; those were extreme. The lists are in chronological order, and I've only reached June 4 so far: Vijay accuses Raghav of sending him to jail.

Ironically, Pallavi said that if Raghav framed someone, he would brag about it, so he hadn't framed Vijay, but she knew that Raghav didn't only brag when he sent Nikhil to jail. Raghav also claimed that he registered the explosive car in Pallavi's name, and after Pallavi confronted him, Raghav allowed her to go on believing that her arrest was his fault (not Lion's).

Also ironically, Harish who exonerated Raghav for framing Pallavi was the one framed by Raghav and sent to prison for Raghav's smuggling and racketeering.

Updated to the foot-washing scene on June 16, when the creative team gave up writing for Vijay as a character with his own tragic experiences and point of view, and tried to write Raghav as a victim.

After that, the Deshmukh family infighting became its own story, disconnected from Pallavi's and Raghav's meandering in the Kirti-Sunny story. What a stupid decision, to give viewers a choice between the leads or the established supporting cast!

The conflict between Vijay and Raghav should have had a payoff for viewers: Vijay accepts that Raghav is on his side, and they stand united against Sulochana. After exploring their grudging alliance for a while, the conflict could have started up again with both of them trying to influence Pallavi.
