No amount of workout could dull the pangs of humiliation she felt today.
By the time she had marched out of the conference room, the entire college knew about her conspiracies and was gossiping about her unsuccessful intentions. All her hard work went down the drain.
Now, not only has she lost her scholarship at Cambridge, but also her only job and reputation. Getting fired from SIAC is a big deal, no one would hire her after this dismissal.
Why?
Why did Shaurya have to choose that down-market, classless, Anokhi Bhalla over someone like me?
I could have given you everything, Shaurya! I would have taken care of you, this family, been a dutiful bahu and a pliant patni. But no! You chose someone like Anokhi Bhalla even after I promised to be the life partner you always wanted for yourself!
Beneath the covers of a conniving woman lay an old flame. A woman who had once deeply cared and loved him.
Shagun could not fathom how or why had Shaurya changed so drastically?
How?
How can he change for Anokhi and support her ambitions when he didn’t bat an eye before asking her to choose between career and relationship!
It was so unfair!
How can Anokhi effortlessly have his love, his support and his companionship when she did not get even a fraction of it, even for a moment during their two years of relationship? Shaurya and Anokhi didn’t even date before their marriage!
And if this was love, then what did they share for over two years? Where was this insanity during those years? Where was this adamancy when she needed it?
Love!
He is losing his family. The great Sabherwal family that has always been his sole priority. Yet, he does not think twice before walking out on them for his so-called love.
Shaurya says he loves Anokhi. Well, he has his love today. But at what cost?
“Look, what that girl has reduced you to! Had you chosen me, you would have lived peacefully with your family! All because of you, Anokhi!” She raged and ran faster on the treadmill.
“You really have no shame, do you?” A calm voice broke her sprint.
When Shagun gave her a questioning look, she continued further, “Shaurya has uncovered your ploy, the committee has fired you and by now, the whole city must be aware of your schemes, yet, here you are! Shamelessly loitering in our home…” Devi Sabherwal walked inside gracefully, “Tej and Shaurya will be home soon. I thought you would have left before one of them decides to kick you out.”
“So, are you here to make it easy for them, Badi M-”
“You may call me Mrs. Sabherwal, Shagun.” Devi smiled gently, but Shagun could feel the animosity behind that soft tone.
“You are throwing me to the wolves? After everything we have done!”
“We? There was no ‘we’ here, Shagun. All this mess is our own to clean. You became too hasty to get rid of that girl. It was too cheap for your own standards to manipulate the evidence to frame the daughter-in-law of the Sabherwal family.”
“Oh, now that middle-class, down market girl is your daughter-in-law?” Shagun scoffed.
“She is. I might hate her guts, but she is married to Shaurya. She is a Sabherwal now. And as long as she holds that surname, you must not forget that attacking a Sabherwal won’t end well for you.”
“Unbelievable. Are you the same woman who tried to manipulate me into coming back into Shaurya’s life?”
“Don’t fool yourself, Shagun. There is no love lost between us, I still don't care about Anokhi. This is about a Sabherwal. You tried to slander the daughter-in-law of this family!! And we Sabherwals won’t take it lightly! That girl is gone, good riddance! And now, it is your turn. A fair warning, if you don’t leave on your own accord, Shaurya will gladly ask the security to escort you out the door... ” Devi Sabherwal taunted gleefully.
“What about your promise?” Shagun reminded her hastily.
Devi stopped midway and gave her a mocking smile, “You must be really desperate, if you think that Shaurya would let you anywhere close to himself after knowing the kind of schemes you made against his ‘beloved’ Anokhi...” She slithered her way out of the room.
Shagun angrily tossed the towel and paced the floor.
Her plan had failed. Now, there was no way out of the ditch she had fallen into. And now she had to face the consequences of her failure.

A/N: Okay, so, this is the first OS of the series. Shagun chapter was incomplete and I kinda didn't wanna spoil it with my own ideas. I was however disappointed with Shagun's lack of jealousy, after all, she did once love Shaurya. Or at least cared.
