That SRK ad on paan? I think it's paan, I don't know any other word to describe it.😆 Anyways, that ad seems to have incited all kinds of reactions from people and it got me thinking about celebrities and some of their attempts to propagate social messages, whether it be through insta, or twitter, or ads, or any other public platform.
What do you think of celebrities trying to make a statement and spread positive messages on various public platforms but doing a complete 180 flip and contradicting themselves with their movie/ad choices?
Most of the celebrities, at one point or another, might have been a part of something in the past that can be seen as socially problematic today. Or they could be engaging in ethically questionable ads even today. For example, fair and lovely ads and BLM posts on insta at the same time look hypocritical at best but can we hold it against them? Does that take away from their credibility or should people not take them seriously to begin with?
I personally don't look up to them for social messages and even when they do, I roll my eyes a little cuz I see everything they do as a PR exercise of sorts. I found Deepika's "repeat after me" chants very opportunistic and distasteful the week of SSR's death too. What are your views on celebrities and the social causes they take up every now and then?
