After an unbelievably successful Season 13, casting was a big responsibility for Season 14 creatives. More so with the pandemic stigma, it was hard to get people on board.
But the creatives took the easy route. They just asked themselves that which was that one contestant which made BB13 so appealing to the Indian masses? And they realised it was none other than- Shehnaaz Gill! Her fake dumbness, her bacchi-ness, her OTT behaviour, and her sleazy moves were lapped up by the masses so much that she even crossed their ladla winner in terms of popularity within weeks of the show’s finale.
So the casting task was now rather simple. Just find a Shehnaaz Gill 2.0 and for the rest follow the usual age-old time-tasted casting formula.
TV ki bechari bahu (preferably Colors): Rubina
Ex Male TV beta, now jobless for years: Eijaz
OTT Vamp who will never stop plotting or yelling: Pavitra
Singer to potentially entertain Salman for the 1st 2 WKWs: Rahul
Free candidate on 1+1 deal: Abhinav
Nepotism Quota (unknown relative of well-known celebrity): Jaan.
Filler candidates that are easy on the eyes, come cheap and preferably desperate to get noticed: Nishant, Shehzaad.
Now for potential Shehnaaz Gill 2.0 candidates, they couldn’t be certain who would captivate the viewers the most among these 3. So they casted all 3!
Candidate 1: Punjabi+Singer- Sara
Candidate 2: History of sleazy movies+OTT behaviour- Nikki
Candidate 3: Fake dumbness+bacchi-ness- Jasmine (bonus is she’s a Colors alumnus)
They knew it was almost impossible to find a duplicate personality of their last year’s winner, so they brought in the original for 2 weeks to stir things up.
Now, will this formula work this time? Only time can tell!
