Mishti's flawed definition of love!

When you fall in love, quite often you lose your mind along with your heart. You are on a feelings induced high and all rational thought flies out of the window. For a time, you are floating around on a cloud and the real world that lies beneath escapes your notice or attention. The irrational heart takes precedence over the rational mind that takes cognizance of scruples and morals and right and wrong at every stage.
Looking at their actions through this prism, I find both Ruhaan and Mishti very realistic. Their actions and emotions are conflicted and hence they are bound to evoke polarized responses from an audience. Some may love them, some may hate them and so on. But the fact remains that both these characters are fairly representative of this generation. They are both conflicted and confused in love.

Does being conflicted and confused absolve them of any blame for any hurt that they may cause to people around them? Most certainly not. In fact, Mishti herself would be the last person to absolve herself of blame. Unlike Ruhaan, who clearly says that he cannot do injustice to himself at the cost of doing justice to his friend, Mishti is still conscious of her prior commitment and the need to live up to it. There have been lapses, like when she liberates her tresses or the intimate, sensual gesture of caressing Ruhaan's shirt, but Mishti is still holding on to rational thought as she reminds herself that she needs to abide by her word. She is not placing this newfound feeling, this emotion that she is luxuriating in currently, above the promise that she has already made, at least in action even if not in thought.

Mishti and Ruhaan have both acknowledged their feelings to each other, even if it is through non-verbal cues rather than any overt declaration. Ruhaan will let nothing stop him if Mishti were to give him the go-ahead, but Mishti is not even able to give herself that go-ahead, let alone him. If she were a different kind of person, callous, fickle and insensitive, Mishti could well have given in to the temptation, and had a last minute fling before settling down to boring matrimony. It might have been the easier thing to do even. Although, this girl is not that girl either. Her upbringing and the hangups that she has inherited along with the circumstances of her birth, will not let her be that girl.

For now, Mishti is floundering. She has fallen off the edge, caught in the whirlpool of emotion that Ruhaan evokes in her. She cannot allow herself to drown even if she is sorely tempted to. For that would render her whole life till now, the beliefs and values that she has held dear, a travesty. However, a part of her recognizes that what she is going through is the most real and most spontaneous experience of her life. Even if it goes against all that she has believed in all her life, it is what makes her feel more alive than ever before.

Falling in love and falling out of love are processes that often overlap. It is not like closing one tap before opening another. In an ideal world, one relationship should end before another begins. In the real world, there is often an overlap. Human relations are far too complex and complicated to be fitted into neatly labelled boxes. Mishti should indeed end it all with Veer before embarking on a relationship with Ruhaan. The problem here is that Mishti does not want to embark on this new relationship. So the question of ending the previous relationship does not even arise. She thinks she can conquer her inner demons, she can go back to being Veer's Mishti. This is the reason why she is expressing a desire for time alone, so she can delve deep into the inner recesses of her heart to try and resolve the conflict within.

Having been the axis around which Mishti's world has revolved for some time now, Veer is not able to cope with how lopsided their relationship has become suddenly. After being the satellite to his sun, Mishti is suddenly seeming to go off into an orbit of her own. A nice and good man Veer surely is but there is a petulant child in there, that is not too pleased that his doll suddenly does not want to play with him. More than a concern for her well-being, and wondering what exactly is making her behave the way she is, what seems to irk him more is her seeming lack of attention to him. While one cannot help but feel sorry for the poor guy, particularly knowing exactly what is going on, one cannot fail to observe the glaring imbalance in their relationship yet again. Mishti had made this relationship all about him, shaped herself to be what and how he wanted her to be or maybe she just spoiled him by being this over-compensating partner, fearing the collapse of their relationship if she gave precedence to her own identity every so often.

Today's youth do not believe that self-denial is a virtue. They do not hesitate to seize the moment and are selfish enough to prioritize themselves over all others. They would rather be honest and selfish than be hypocritical and self-sacrificing. Mishti's past baggage is causing her to display behavior that is atypical of her generation. While giving in to her impulses in private, Mishti will die before she will publicly acknowledge that her definition of love as commitment is flawed. There is no love without commitment and there is no commitment without love. However they are not one and the same. Mishti will come around to accepting and appreciating the difference but it will not happen overnight. And it will come at great cost. Unfortunately, she won't be the only one paying the price. There will be collateral damage, innocent hearts will be broken, but then whoever said life is fair?!

Amazingly written👏👏
The way you have analyzed the situations and the feelings of the characters is more practical and relatabe..Most importantly the way you've described Veer ,Ruhaan and Mishti's emotions/feelings about one another and how they are acting upon those as per their behavioral traits is very precise👍🏼..

Veer commitment hai love nahi...so there is no flaw in her thinking.
There was no Ruhaan earlier...so Veer was her best option...and she did everything to keep veer out of fear...even thought of giving up her job i guess bcoz she has this conception that working woman may get dumped by husband.

every word of this post is true, I saw many are upset and saying mishti character changed ,ruhaan changed but nope they didn't even changed one bit , they are experiencing new phase of feelings, and still veer also expecting and missing his perfect mishti not the real mishti, if he really loves her and accept mishti with flaws than I'm sure she will choose veer over ruhaan

How can anyone judge mishti? Can't we ever dream about someone in our life, crush and attraction?and to pass this phase atleast some time needed to ques ourselves

Don't expect mahan characters in webseries also, all are flawed but they are beautiful with their flaws

Your maturity levels are visible in your words very well written
