To revert, love is , to my mind, basically caring more for the other person than for yourself, the yearning to be with the other, for that alone gives a feeling of completeness, the concomitant restlessness when the loved one is far away. The list is a long one, but the core of it, in its highest form, is that the two are halves of each other, ek doosre ke poorak. This is what the French call le grand amour.

It is rare, for most of what is called love, even by the lovers, is much more facile. It is either physical attraction, which by definition does not last, or the result of a conviction that everyone has to fall in love, and so they must be in love also! Which is why, even with all marriages in the west being "love marriages" , the divorce rate is so high. Their "love" was an imaginary construct, an illusion, and when trouble came, it melted away like mist in the morning sun.

We in India are of course mostly into sedate "arranged marriages", so we should not face the problems of love!

People often mistake "romance" for "love"

In romance, gestures are specifically shown as the candle light dinner or a bouquet of roses, and every romance need not end up in or develop into Love.

Whereas love can be characterised as powerful attraction and personal commitment and sacrifice, this attraction is not limited to human beings alone but also to other entities like animals and things and even ideas and this attachment results in a very powerful bonding between the two. Romance is visible and love is invisible.

Love is possible between friends of the same sex, but still you do not call it romance.

Shortly, "Love" is an abstract noun and "Romance" is a concrete one!

Here, the marriage between Jalal and Jodha just "happened" without love playing any part in it, and on the contrary, hatred over each other dominating in their every action. The interest with which we were watching the show was only to see how they made the marriage work. That was the reason why the show was able to pull on up to 250 episodes without much difficulty.

In a Car Festival in temples, it is difficult to drag (is there any better and holy term Shyamala?) the chariot at one stretch, so they will halt it at a few places before they reach the destination. Like the JA show which lost its tempo in some tracks. But a few years ago there was in the news that the very famous Thiruvarur Chariot broke down on the way and no one was able to move it! Same thing happened here in the show after their 556th episode!

If presenting gifts and taking to dinner are forms of romancing, what do you call the gesture of Jalal getting Jodha a green dress of his choice for Sukanya's wedding? And what do we say about Jodha cooking specially for Jalal, after the "religion conversion' episode?

Here's something you can do since you mentioned that your turn would be in the next year or two.

This is for all the single Baisas who frequent this thread. 😃 If you have a partner already you can ignore this. Otherwise here's a suggestion.

Write down on paper all the qualities of a future partner you would like to have. Not vague but specific ones. e.g not just Tall but how tall - Over 5'9" etc. Instead of like so & so , AMK, Jalal etc write the qualities you would want in a Mr. Right. Once you finish the list fold & put it in an envelope , seal it & leave it to be read when the time brings your Mr. Right. It does not matter if it's going to be an arranged or love marriage.

It's said when you write down what you want like your goals in life, spouse etc in most cases you would be surprised how close to what you write comes true. You can think of this post then.

Now Wishu I'm not sure if you want your future mail app to do this for you. But hand written ones are touted to bear fruit. 😃
