Life is about agreements between two or more parties ;commitments, spoken, silent or written. Arrangements that as people we are duty bound to honour either for our own sake or for the sake of others. Contract also means, to narrow down as opposed to expansion. Looking at the first section of the episode.The emotional distance, formality appears to contract between Aditya and Zoya. Adi's electrocution mishap certainly draws the two together.
The theme of burning and cooling continues when Adi applies ice pack to his sustained burn. The burn is symbolic that once again a least suspecting close to his heart foe attacks him in the back, signifying betrayal. In both cases by family members.
The burn is somewhat related to love itself too. Where love cools and soothes one's life when in place. Another time betrayal in love can also burn one's heart ,mind and soul. Where sentiments are charred beyond repair. When only spiritual grafting from another suitable matching soul, can perhaps regenerate the blood flow in the maimed soul.
Both Adi and Zoya, have in their own way faced scalding in their married lives. Both begin to realize that the , cooling agent to their burns lies in the very healing they offer each other in the form of their budding friendship. Zoya this ties in physical burning, with Adi's residue emotional smarting.The scene is endearing as one thing leads to another in striking a contract between their souls.
There is history between them, that contracts gaps between them, that adds a comic touch presently.Adi's initial slight fuss about pulling his tee shirt off is quite funny. When Zoya reminds him sternly how on previous occasions he had no issues of stripping down to the waist before her! Basically nothing she hadn't seen before! She can see he was beginning to become like a child scared of pungent medication! Zoya helps him, illustrates the fact that its good to deal with problems independently. However a little help from friend, works. Where ,in some jobs we can manage on our on. For others, when pain becomes unbearable for us. we could do with others assistance, as as it alleviates our own suffering to a degree.
It's amusing to see how Zoya diverts his attention from the stinging cleansing swab she applies to his burn, but drawing him into conversation.
Burning can also imply, jealousy, possessiveness common apparent in love, stemming out of insecurity .Here I think of Anjana.. and Zoya expressing her concern to Adi about upsetting his mother. Zoya worries about his mothers reactions.. echoes stereotypical views.. plus could show mothers posseievness at sharing her son with another woman. makes me wonder does Wasim show similar symptoms?
Have to say Adi choses his words carefully when it comes to building bridges between Zoya and his mother. It matters to him to keep things sweet between them. Rather than turn both Zoya and Anjana against each other.
Only points out things about his mother , which Zoya has empathy with. She does see his argument. This understanding gels them both, even in blown out of proportion family scenes.
His advocacy of his mothers nice side, also adds a light touch when he again refers to marriage! as in his mum being her MIL! They both laugh at the idea when he assures her, she needn't stress as both of them will handle his mother together! References, to saas, were like slips, predictions towards how things may pan out in future? Or was Adi mooting the thought to her?
But Its noticeable how Adi suddenly stops laughing and his face becomes morose. His eyes sadden. His mishap stings and burns him intensely. Marriage.The very thought makes his body wince. His spirit is so badly singed by his previous marriage. That now only Zoya's, gentle blowing on his burn and securing his burn from impurities ,assures him of some healing in time. Whether a scar remains or fades away in time, is yet to be seen?
A drawer where people stash away things; old memories too! The first aid kit along with Adi and Pooja's photo, symbolically are together in one drawer. This drawer continues to carry the memory of a significant phase of Adi's recent past life.
Zoya now presently, is the one who will with all the skills within her power, lessen and heal not just his body scald, but his very soul also. She compliments Pooja for her choice of saris. Zoya, wants him to remember, the fine, the special things about Pooja , so he can expedite further healing of the blisters he's formed around his heart. Zoya's cool, calm reaction after seeing Adi Pooja photo, contrasts, with Adi's heated reaction in the past,when he saw Zoya and Yash photo! In fact Zoya puts it back in the drawer, giving Adi the time ,and option to do away with his memory, when he is ready.
Overall some great interaction between them. Invariably, both apply calming verbal, encouraging medication to each other, which is the need of the hour when they face family opposition from both sides. I find that both Adi and Zoya find reasons to compliment each other within their achievements. They act as the elixir to each others success.
The familial contract that exists between children and parents.It's not only children who gave grief to their parents. Parents too can exasperate their children.
Adi feels the vibes ,especially his mother sends off towards Zoya. Wasim's rude entry into Hooda house demanding to see his daughter, is enough for both Zoya and Adi to witness. Such Romeo and Juliet style animosity exists between their respective clans. It contrasts with their own relationship how from petty showdowns! their friendship thrives.
The familial opposition is the contract in the plot too. For the greater the pressure from their families, the more Adi and Zoya will tend to draw closer to each other, as Anjana predicts already, and Wasim dreads! In fact , for Zoya and Adi it's a good thing, as it will help them in recognizing their true worth.
Both Wasim and Harsh have their own agenda's.. its out in the open ,they needn't be civil to each other.In fact both fathers, and Anjana abide by the same contract! have Zoya out of Hoodas life! Zoya rightfully keeps her professionalism up front. In which Adi like a true friend totally backs her up. In fact he is the one who points out she is not socializing here , but is working towards fulfilling her contract! Arranging for the anniversary.
Wasim all along knew what he was up to. As a father, he knew his daughters weak point Zoya s commitment to fulfil her professional contract. Under the ploy of dad knows best guise! he tries to poison Zoya's mind so she drops the idea of keeping to her contact for the event. After much argument, he gives in. Allows her to honour her commitment. On the condition that she will say yes to an alliance! contract of marriage to some friends son. Its noteworthy, Zoya tells him she's not ready for marriage. Wasim actually can gauge Zoya's interest in Aditya Hooda.
The Hoodas too think its good riddance to bad rubbish when Wasim takes Zoya away. Anjana protests, Adi is addicted to Zoya ! Best bit is , Adi over hears their conversation.. bad mouthing Zoya! he catches them lying! They were referring to Sakshi, not Zoya. Now Adi is beginning to wonder.. life at Hooda house is far from normal.
I liked the scene when Zoya opts to leave Hooda house with her parents. She turns back to establish eye contact with Adi. Her nod tells him, she leaves, so as to diffuse the situation! She will be back to honour the contract.. and he knows apart from being professional , she also is his most trusted friend, who will not let him down! hamlet53 24.7.18
