"DHANDA" (Marathi & English)
Directed by: Kshitee Jog

Inspired by a newspaper article, this original play explores the volatile partnership between crime and politics. The 'Dhanda' of elections, juxtaposed with that of prostitution - a harsh reminder of the dirty under belly of our urban surroundings. The play is a real, hard hitting, no holds-barred and yet insight ridden look at politico-prostitution nexus. Staged by Backstage Group Bombay, this play cleaned out at the Lipton Thespo Bangalore 2003 Awards Night, taking home Thespos for Best Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Direction and Play.

36 Ghante

The next piece titled TERE MERE BEACH MEIN (mark the pun) was in Marathi. Written by Satish Manwar and directed by Sandesh Kulkarni, the piece is a travesty of the endless expectations that middle-class, urban couples suffer from. Each spouse wants the other to do things s/he is not accustomed to or worse be like some one else's spouse. So two couples played by Nikhil Ratnaparkhi, Veena Jamkar, Ketan Karande and Kshti Jog are found marking their time on a beach, vying for attention and debating who's got the better deal. The piece while making fun of stereotypical likes and dislikes such as when Ketan Karande hugs Kshiti Jog tight and tells her that she is supposed to like the smell of his sweat, also conveyed the playwright's sensitivity to the modern malaise of nothing is ever satisfactory enough.

The last play - "Saadia" - was by Ruia College. Poor Saadia lives in a conflict affected area of Kashmir. One fine day a terrorist barges into her house and seeks refuge at gun point. But Saadia's house was actually an analogy for all of Kashmir and the plight of its people who are caught in the crossfire. Excellent play and performance by all the artists (in fact I personally thought it deserved the best play award). The title was played by Kshitee Jog who bagged the Best Actress award.

From maid to main lead!

In the world of television, the scenario can change anytime for the better or for the worse. For actress Kshiti Jog, it's definitely for the better. Not very long ago, the actress was playing a maid in the popular Zee daily Tumhari Disha. But now in Zee TV's ambitious Ghar Ki Laksmi — Betiyaan, she is playing one of the sisters around whom the story revolves. Kshiti is playing the eldest sister Saraswati in the serial who kickstarts the story.

Neeta Shetty and newcomer Twinkle who was a participant in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa — Ek Main aur Ek Tu are playing the other sisters. Betiyaan, a story of four sisters reminds us of Amanat which too was a story of six sisters and was aired on Zee TV a few years back. Now whether this serial gets Kshiti stardom or not like it did to the stars of Amaanat, remains to be seen.

Kshiti almost got married in soap

Kshiti Jog, who plays Saraswati in Ghar ki Laxmi – Betiyaan almost got married for real in the serial. The soap's director wanted her reel life marriage sequence to look very authentic. He wanted to incorporate all the rituals that take place when one is tying the knot. So he hired a real pandit to perform the marriage between Saraswati and Bhavishya (Kartik).

Talking about how her reel life ties would have been binding in real life too Kshiti says, "We had taken every minute detail associated with a Gujarati wedding into consideration. The pandit completed 30-40 per cent of their marriage before I realised what was happening. He even wanted us to even perform the pheras. When he was asked to stop he got upset and complained that we were not allowing him to do his job properly." Even though the wedding was stalled in the nick of time, emotions were unstoppable. Kshiti and her onscreen sister shed buckets of real tears during her bidai shot. Well, all you actors who have to get married at least a handful of times on TV better be careful.

She has done so much at such a young age too, sorry someone asked about her age so I was looking through old posts, dunno her age. But she won an award in college in 1999 according to the above. Maybe that's a clue.
