It is not unknown that Sidharth Malhotra-
Manoj Bajpayee starrer Aiyaary, which was
earlier slated to hit the theatres during the
Republic Day, was eventually pushed to
February 9 considering the Padmaavat
controversy. But now it seems Neeraj
Pandey's espionage thriller is staring at yet
another hurdle that may delay the film's
release again.
Less than a week prior to its release, a
special screening of Aiyaary was held by
Revising Committee of Ministry of I&B over
the weekend, which was also attended by
officials from Defense Ministry also, whereby
the body has asked for certain changes in
the film. The censor board was reportedly
asked for a review by the Defense Ministry
as the film is set against the army backdrop.
Reports suggest that the body has
suggested five cuts in the drama and owing
to the last-minute changes at the editing
table, the film's release will be affected.
Confirming the news, co-producer Jayantilal
Gada admitted that the film may not be able
to make it to the theatres this Friday.
"There's a strong chance that Aiyaary will be
postponed to February 16. The team will
submit the film to the CBFC only after making
the recommended changes. The overseas
delivery of the film looks difficult,
considering we won't have the censor
certificate in time. That will, in turn, affect
the India release.", he told Mid-Day.
While everyone is wondering about
Aiyaary's special screening, a source
revealed to Mid-Day that it was a hush-hush
meeting, with only the director representing
the film. Jayantilal Gada further revealed,
"There were a few modifications, which we
are incorporating."
Aiyaary was supposed to clash with Akshay
Kumar's Padman this weekend on February
now. Well, if Aiyaary's team is unable to meet
the deadline, R Balki's social drama will have
a solo release.
