Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus
Padmavati continues to be mired in
controversies. Ever since the film couldn't
release on the scheduled date of Dec 1 this
year, several actors and filmmakers have
come out in support of Bhansali and the
cast of the film. Deepika plays the titular role
- the character of Rani Padmini.
In an interview with a leading agency, Hema
Malini revelead that she once played Rani
Padmini. Malini had played a number
historical characters on the TV series Tera
Panhey, which depicted 13 chapters from
the history. Rani Padmini was one of the
characters she played in the series, which
aired in 1986 on Doordarshan.
Hema said, "I feel very happy that I've done
Padmavati's role, that is Rani Padmini in Tera
Panhey. Mera toh release bhi hogaya (Mine
already got a release)."
In an earlier interview, Deepika had said,
"It's been a while since I have been so
nervous. I can't remember the time I was so
nervous. I think it is the function of the fact
that in all the movies that I've done, I feel
there is something (different) about this
one. And it is not from the heart, it is not
from the head, it is from the gut... It is
coming from a completely different place."
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama is yet
to receive a certificate from the Central
Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
