AN: After reading a few short imaginative instances from others, I had a wish to pen down my imagination in the form of this short OS.
The lanes of Amboli village were deserted and somber looking in the dead of the night, with the inhabitants retiring in their respective abodes in peace as the dusk sieged in. However there was a lone house, a room in particular which was illuminated, quite distinct from the otherwise pitch black vicinity.
The Mukhiyani of the Amboli village was wide awake, restless, rolling to either sides of her bed, engulfed in the aftermath of the mishap that had taken place, the very reason sleep was refusing its duty of enthralling her reverently. Aru was a brave girl, she had overcome the horrific situation with grit, albeit reeling back those memories at present created a vacuum in her heart. Her body shivered, as flashes of that monster's beastly deed kept haunting her peace, flow of tears wetting her pillow.
Mukhi was having a restless night as well. He chose to sleep in the balcony as usual, intending to let Aru sleep in peace, clearly unawares of her insomnia that day. He had been advised by the lady doctor who attended Aru after the mishap, to try and keep her isolated for a few days in the nights, since the fear of the attack would effect in preferring to keep men in general, at bay for a few weeks. However he kept a watch on, with frequented glances at her inside the room. His eyes though shut tight, could sense the adjacent room lit bright, asudden in the middle of night.
He waited for a few minutes, before he decided to walk in and query her. He gently knocked the door, Aru abruptly rose up,
"Gaurani..., Aru..." he uttered softly to assure her that it's him. Aru's tensed look softened the moment, she realized it was her Mukhiji.
"Aru, darwaza kolo...!" He muttered,
"Haan Mukhiji..." she said in a meek tone, and opened the door for him.
"Tum abhi tak Jaag rahi ho? Lights band kyun nahi kiya tu ne..." He inquired with concern, his eyes falling on her sweaty features.
"So nahi sakti thi main, Mukhiji, andhere se darr lag raha tha. Isiliye Maine lights bhi switch on kiya.!" She said walking back into the room. She reached her bed to sit on and turned to Mukhi,
Mukhi stood worried at her ,
"Thabiyat toh theek hain na?" He said extending his hand to sense her forehead. He found her temperature a little higher.
"Lagta hai tujhe bukaar hogaya...!" He said and made Aru lie down, so that he could apply wet cloth on her forehead to reduce the temperature. He grabbed a bowl of water and cloth for the deed.
He took it as a good sign that she didn't hesitate to open the door for him, neither she showed any signs of awkwardness at having him inside the room nor she flinched at his touch, which gave him more confidence.
As he continued giving her wet cloth treatment for a couple of minutes.
"Darr lagraha hai kya, Gaurani?"
"Lagraha tha, par aap hai na mere saath ab.!.."
He stood up intending to walk out of the room, but Aru's hesitant voice stopped him from taking another step towards the door.
"Mukhiji,... rukhiye na."
"Bolo...kuch chahiye ?"
" Haan, Kya aap mere saath kamare ke andhar so sakte hain?" She asked him in an anxious, hopeful voice.
"Doctor madamji ne kaha tha tumhe Shayad darr lagega...isiliye..." he dragged unknowing what to say further.
"Aap se darr?" She stared at him with a great rush of gratitude. "Bilkul bhi nahi. Mujhe aape bharosa hai Khud se bhi zyada..aap meri taqhat hai...Aap kuch galat kar hi nhi sakte...main jaanti hoon ki aap joh bhi karenge sabki bhallai ke liye karenge. Mere saath yahi rukhiye, Mukhiji,!" She said with a hearty, confident smile. Mukhi couldn't have asked for more from his Gaurani, her trust in him meant a world to him.
Aru fell in a peaceful slumber, curled inside her blankets, hugging another pillow close for comfort knowing that her husband is there for her always. Mukhi walked across the room and settled on the couch, rest assured that Aru was deep asleep.
