Million Dollar Baby - Some movies stay with you forever and this is surely one of a kind..Hilary Swank as a "dont give up" fighter, Eastwood as the recluse coach with the help of ever brilliant Morgan Freeman this movie is treat to eyes. You root for Maggie Fitzgerad for every steps of her life starting from Frankie to agree to coach her to till end you want her to get up and fight back for life..What acting, what a movie ! Bravo👏

Ok Jaanu
It wasnt as bad as people on here were saying. I kept reading how people walked out of the theatre...bit of an exaggeration lol...Yeah it wasnt a pathbreaking film...but it wasnt THAT bad.

I would say the strongest factor in the movie is the acting of Aditya and Shraddha...with Aditya shining a little more!

Id give the movie 4/10 ...because the execution, story-buildup, and overalll handling of the movie was VERY WEAK. The actors involved did a great job...but everyone behind the camera messed up bad!

Hidden Figures
What an incredible journey. At over 2 hours, it is long for a Hollywood movie, but there is never a dull moment.

The story follows the life and struggles of three African American women working at NASA. Katherine Johnson a brilliant mathematician, Mary Jackson who aspires to be an engineer and Dorothy Vaughn who wants to be a supervisor. They struggle with racism and segregation in the 1960's.

There are heartbreaking moments. But the movie is triumphant and uplifting as the three find courage to fight the odds.

Loving

Another important movie about racism and segregation. It is based on the Landmark US Supreme court case Loving vs Virginia that put an end to laws prohibiting interracial marriage and children.

Richard Loving a white construction worker and Mildred Jeter a black farm girl fall in love. When Mildred gets pregnant , Richard proposes and they marry. Immediately, they are arrested by the Sheriff in the middle of the night. They are sentenced to prison for a year, but the sentence is suspended if they leave the state. Initially, the comply and move to Washington. But later Mildred misses Virginia and wants to raise her kids out in the country like how she grew up.

Loving is a bit more slow paced and can lack excitement at times. But it has its surprising amount of levity. Some of the scenes and character interactions are just tender and beautiful. The recreation of the famous Life magazine photos was brilliant.

For most of the movie they show nothing but Tom Hanks finding his way in the deserted island and surviving and yet there is never a dull moment, never gets boring or repetitive... Can't imagine anyone else but Tom Hanks pulling that off. Yes, the meeting between him and Helen Hunt's character was so touching, nothing looked forced or artificial...

Can you imagine a movie like this being made in BW 😆

There is another movie similar to castaway called 'Inferno(1953)', it's an excellent and intense suspense movie

The protoganist played by Robert Ryan is totally isolated and left by himself - The similarity ends here

He is not mild mannered likeable guy but a rude selfish millionaire who when traveling through the Mohave desert with his wife and friend is totally left alone in the middle of a burning desert( it's not a green and fertile island like in castaway) when he breaks his leg and is unable to move

They leave him supposedly to get medical aid

As time goes by it occurs to him they might never come back and he has survive on his own with no supplies, no mobility and burning sun and poisonous creatures ( not as poisonous as some human beings) enveloping him

Occasionally they show it on Fox Movie Channel... It's 3D actually but only on big screen ofcourse

There was a TV movie based on this called Ordeal(1973) not nearly as powerful as 'Inferno' but still watchable, YouTube has it.

Vertical Limit -
The first scene until the father sacrifices himself was... *facepalm* BAD direction.. almost looked like a spoof scene, infact I didn't take it seriously until the father drops dead and the scene changes.. The entire movie is so 'cinematic' and feels superficial. Granted, they did overcome technical difficulties. Make up was poor, acting was poor, story was too filmy and melodramatic, direction was poor. Poor movie. :|

Son of Saul

A Holocaust drama.. it was scary sometimes and heart-wrenching, but I watched it. It shows different extremes of humans - the extreme evil we are capable of ; our capacity to live/die through the worst.. what times humanity has seen and lived through, is just...

This is a story about a Sonderkommando - a worker, usually a Jew who was hired to work in maintenance of the gas chambers... and so, the Kommando finds his son(still breathing but unconscious) among the bodies he was to dispose, and the movie is about how he goes on to struggle in hiding his son, in finding a rabbi to give a proper funeral to his son... The actor is amazing - his expressions speak for themselves - how he goes from feeling numb inside, to the fear screaming out from his silent face and so on.. Direction is very good. Really liked how the director keeps the morbidity away from camera's focus - it's not in your face, such things need not be..

The beautiful thing is.. despite the horrifying conditions around him, he still believes he has to give a good resting place to his son.. even if it means risking his life..

31 (2016)

Fun, wild, and ridiculous. Rob Zombie is kinda/sorta impressive as a director, but leaves something to be desired as a writer. The film is not nearly as gory or gross as I expected it to be, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!
