Shor Se Shuruaat Trailer Out: The Short Films Make The Right Noise

The anthology of 7 films, directed by proteges of Imtiaz Ali, Zoya Akhtar, Homi Adajania, Nagesh Kukunoor, Mira Nair, Sriram Raghavan and Shyam Benegal, tackles the theme of noise

We finally get a peek at the collection of short films, Shor Se Shuruaat, produced by Humara Movie.

The production house had roped in filmmakers like Imtiaz Ali, Zoya Akhtar, Homi Adajania, Nagesh Kukunoor, Mira Nair, Sriram Raghavan and Shyam Benegal to mentor young filmmakers.

We have many big names in the star cast as well. The trailer gives us a glimpse of Atul Kulkarni, Sakshi Tanwar and Sanjay Mishra's power packed performances.

The short films in Shor Se Shuruaat' have been helmed by filmmakers - Rahul V. Chittella, Pratik Rajen Kothari, Satish Raj Kasireddi, Amira Bhargava, Supriya Sharma, Annie Zaidi and Arunima Sharma.

Many of these directors have been assistants to the senior filmmakers, and therefore their style seems inspired by their mentors.

Be it Imtiaz Ali's love for travel which is visible in his movies or Homi Adajania's dark humour, Mira Nair's nuanced take on dysfunctional families or Sriram Raghavan's penchant for gloomy narratives.

So Mira's mentee Rahul V. Chittela tells the tale of an estranged father and son while Sriram's protg Annie Zaidi paints the picture of a chaotic future where noise pollution is out of control.

The anthology consists of seven shorts: Hell O Hello, Dhvani, Decibel, Azaad, Yellow Tin Can Telephone, Aamer and Mia I'm.

The film was part of the official selection at MAMI, Mumbai Film Festival 2016 and was the closing film at the South Asian International Film Festival, New York.

Shor Se Shuruaat releases worldwide on December 16.

'Shor Se Shuruaat' is here to make all the right noises

When seven astounding directors come together to guide talented minds, a gem like 'Shor Se Shuruaat' comes into being. The film is a seamless coming together of several short stories revolving around a theme that is as simple and eloquent as 'noise'.

The film promises some power-packed performances from terrific actors like Atul Kulkarni, Sakshi Tanwar, Sanjay Mishra and the likes.

An anthology of short films, 'Shor Se Shuruaat' is an omnibus presentation of seven short films by seven budding filmmakers who have been mentored by eminent stalwarts like Mira Nair, Shyam Benegal, Imtiaz Ali, Zoya Akhtar, Nagesh Kukunoor, Sriram Raghavan and Homi Adajania.

Each filmmaker in 'Shor Se Shuruaat' has a unique, carefully crafted take and one can see the subtle influences of the respective mentors in their approach- Be it Imtiaz Ali's love for travel which is visible in his movies or Homi Adajania's fun and quirky mood which is subtly filled with a deep sense of intellectualism, or Mira Nair's simple tales which are structured in various levels of context.

All these young filmmakers suggest that the next generation is on its way!

Celebrated filmmaker Mira Nair says, "I think 'Shor se Shuruaat' is a way to bring in new collective voices and of modern and contemporary India and just in a portrait of this crazy globalizing for better or for worse country of ours. It's a real opportunity to look at what the young people are thinking. And also I think that our medium in India has become so sophisticated that expect high standard and I expect to be entertained hopefully and you know to be provoked to be thinking about the things in a different way."

Showcased at prestigious film festivals like MAMI and SAIFF, 'Shor Se Shuruaat' presents how each director blends noise in the simplest of stories, and puts it across impeccably, making the film an absolute must watch.

Produced by HumaraMovie, a studio incubator co-founded by Vinay Mishra, Preety Ali and Pallavi Rohatgi, Shor Se Shuruaat releases on 16th December 2016.
