Bharat falls on Kaushalya's feet and says that he doesn't expect her forgiveness. Kaushalya makes him stand and says that he isn't responsible for the present happenings. Ram was pleased on learning that Bharat is going to rule Ayodhya and he requested the subjects to love you the same. You are very dear to Ram and we all know this. And so you will have to take Ayodhya's responsibility. Bharat denies and says that he doesn't want to increase the burden of his sins by sitting on Ram's throne. The past happenings weren't under his control, but the present is.
Ram thanks the sage for giving him the opportunity to do the deer's tarpan and says that he wishes to do Veda paath for the deer's soul.
Bharat utters that he isn't capable to sit on Ayodhya's throne. Vashistha asks Bharat if he believes that Ayodhya's goodwill is Ram's biggest concern. Bharat agrees. Vashistha further tells him that Ram's coronation would have secured Ayodhya's future. But still he departed to the foresr because he trusted Bharat to be an able man. Learn to respect Ram's belief. Be a tough man and face the situation, this is what I taught you all in Gurukul. But first of all, you will have to perform a son's duty. You will have to perform Dasharath's funeral rites. Bharat breaks down and says that he won't be able to do it.
The sage tells Ram that he proved that he doesn't differentiate between the living beings. His act will benefit all the creatures who died in that particular hour.
Bharat performs Dasharath's last rites and Ram participates in the Veda paath for the deer. The sage tells Ram that everyone whose last rites would be performed in this hour would attain a place in the heaven. Bharat sets fire to Dasharath's body and Shatrughan thinks of punishing the culprit. At Ram's place, the Veda paath ends. Ram expresses his gratitude towards the sage and tells him that these chants ended the anxiety and gave him peace. Sita agrees. The sage utters that mortality gives them sorrow but Vedas give them peace.
Shatrughan breaks into Manthara's chamber and drags her out. Kaikeyi comes to Manthara's rescue and tells him that even Bharat treats the latter as his mother. Shatrughan utters that it's the greatness of Raghuvansh that respects a maid like a mother but Manthara brought a disgrace to Raghuvansh. He refuses to heed to Kaikeyi's orders and tells her that she lost all the rights. He drags Manthara away while Kaikeyi weeps.
Ram seeks the sage's permission to leave. The sage tells him that Ganga-Yamuna sangam site is fit for them and they should spend their fourteen years in his ashram. Ram politely refuses and tells him that since this place is close to Ayodhya, meeting them won't be good for their exile period. He requests the sage to show him the way. The sage tells him that 30 miles away, there's Chitrakut Dham near the banks of Mandakini. There are multiple ashrams and Sita won't be uncomfortable there.
Shatrughan pushes Manthara down. He tells the subjects that Manthara is responsible for king Dasharath's death and Ram's exile. The subjects of Ayodhya have the right to punish her. The subjects utter that she has no right to stay alive and pick up stones. Manthara recalls her nightmare and cries that she's the queen favourite maid, nobody can punish her. The subjects hit her with stones.
