Manoj Kumar to be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award
In an official statement, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that the 47th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be Manoj Kumar. The actor-director, who is popularly known as Bharat Kumar, will receive the honour this year, which consists of a Swarn Kamal or Golden Lotus, a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs and a shawl. Unanimously selected by an esteemed jury comprising of Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Salim Khan, Nitin Mukesh and Anup Jalota, Manoj Kumar is being honoured for his contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema. Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Arun Jaitley spoke to the veteran to congratulate him for receiving the award. He was previously awarded the Padma Shri in 1992.
