TEASER...
MANIK'S POINT OF VIEW-
It was a Sunday afternoon and I had planned to watch a romantic English movie with my wife... Yes, I knew TITANIC was about to come on HBO today and with that I had some hopes that she would understand something... I was heading towards my bedroom and on the stairs called out to her... "Hey Nandini finish your work soon, let's watch the movie together, its gonna start in 10 minutes... I am coming back in 5 ..." She smiled back at me and bobbed her head in a yes...
I quickly went to my bedroom and put on my white t-shirt and tracks and then sprayed my favorite perfume... of course I had to smell good, what if she sits away from me if I didn't smell good... I quickly went and brushed my teeth and then popped a mint just in case we kiss... I quickly set my hair and looked into the mirror last time before I went downstairs...
I rushed downstairs and was murmuring to myself... "Thank God, there is no one at home today... Manik you got to give her the hint today, come on be a man... You can do it... Yes you can..."
I kept encouraging myself by saying it and then reached the living area to switch on the T.V... I settled on the couch and then checked on Nandini... "Nandini where are you??? Come fast..."
Nandini- Manik, just 5 minutes... I am getting popcorns for us...
Her mellifluous voice always had smitten me and the flight of my thoughts took off to some other world... The microwave alarm got me out of my thoughts and I took a deep breath... "I just hope she understands what I am thinking..." And that made me blush...
She bobbed her face out from kitchen and said she is coming... She came with a bowl of popcorns and smiled at me... Whenever she smiled only one song used to play in my mind...
Pehle Nasha, Pehle Khumaar, naya payar hai, naya intezaar...
And I used to imagine I was Aamir Khan and she would just come to me running into my arms... I kept staring at her like a fool who was so mesmerized by seeing his HEROINE walking towards him... I kept daydreaming and didn't realize that she had tapped on my shoulder twice and then she snapped her fingers in front of my eyes, which broke my trance.
Nandini- Manik what happened...
I cleared my throat to hide my nervousness and said..."Aaah...vohhh... nothing... Come sit..." I indicated her to sit next to me and she first curled her eyebrows and then smiled... I let out a sigh as not being caught by her... She passed me the popcorn bowl and we started munching them...
I must be the first husband who was using a movie to hint his wife what he wanted... The movie started with telling about Titanic and I thought of striking a conversation with my wife... "Have you watched it before???"
Nandini- no, not completely... Just some parts of it... All my friends suggested me to watch it...
I was silently getting happy about it and was eagerly waiting for the initial few minutes of history and other scenes to go away and the Love Story to start off...
But, my intelligent wife started to narrate of what she knew about Titanic and its history with utmost excitement... And I just hummed about it and smiled... Nandini was completely immersed in the movie and I was feeling a bit restless with her interest more in the movie and its historical details than on me...
Can you believe what she was doing... she was watching the film and simultaneously searching for articles related to TITANIC on Google...
I was feeling that it wasn't a romantic film but a history show we were watching together like 2 excavators... I mean who does that and the answer was in front of me- MY WIFE can...
I knew I had to keep my cool and wait till the Love Story starts and the scenes come... you know what I mean... And then finally after an hour into the movie I knew the scene was about to come in next 5-6 minutes where Jack and Rose were about to KISS... Yes, I wanted Nandini to see it... I shifted a bit towards her and tried to place my hand around her shoulder... But at the same time she turned towards me and smiled, and I immediately removed my hand that I was about to place...
I was feeling nervous and then I again tried to put my hand around her shoulder and just couldn't... Then came the famous TITANIC pose and the Kissing scene... I was watching it with great passion and was hoping Nandini too did the same... I was imagining Nandini and me in it... I felt my heartbeat race...
After the scene I looked at Nandini from the corner of my eye and was completely shocked to see she was immersed in reading something on her phone... I felt so frustrated that I can't tell... I muttered under my breath..."Dammm what is wrong with her... How could she miss that scene..." But, I tried to keep my cool and waited for the next scene to come... "Manik, no problem, next scene... Be positive...she will get it...yes she will..."
My anticipation began to grew and knew the next romantic scene was about to come... and her phone buzzed... I clutched the cushion tightly and gritted my teeth being pissed off..."Perfect timing..."
Nandini- hi Anusha how are you?? ... ya just chilling with Manik... Ya watching Titanic... hhmmm I found so much about it online yaar...
I was looking at her in disbelief like how could she... Finally she kept her phone and smiled at me... I gave her a weak smile and then spoke..."You like history a lot right..." And she bobbed her head in a yes... God, one look into her innocent eyes and my heartbeat raced again...
The scene started where Jack and Rose were about to... And Nandini was about to get up... I stopped her... " What happened? You need something??" I so wanted her stay and watch the scene with me...
Nandini- It's been quite some time, you must feeling to have something right... so thought I'll make strawberry milkshake for us...
I immediately said... "Nandini I don't need anything, let's have it after few minutes... come sit..." She sat back and I felt relieved... The scene started and this time I leaned backward to watch how Nandini would react... I expected her to blush or show some sign... She watched the scene this time and I felt so happy... I cleared my throat and leaned forward... "aahhh ... Vohhh... Nandini how are you finding the movie... I mean nice na..." She looked at me and smiled...
I was excited and then leaned a bit towards her to come near her... I was almost near her face now and was about to land my lips on her cheeks and before I could do that she turned towards me with a question...
Nandini- Manik...
I tried to straighten myself but she asked me...
Nandini- Tum kya kar rahe thy Manik... (Puzzled)... Acha forget that... You really helped me today...
I was a bit confused... "Help???"
Nandini- ya... now I know why you wanted me to watch the movie...
Her answer immediately lighted my face and all my frustration went into drain... "Really... Tumhe samjh aa gaya..."
Nandini- Ya...
I was feeling like I had finally won the T-20 World Cup... "Wowww that's nice... So are you... Are you ready for it... I mean..."
Nandini- ya ... obviously...
I was feeling like today we'll proceed ahead... but I still wanted to confirm again... "Nandini you really are sure about it right... So let's start it if you..."
Nandini- Manik what's there not be sure about... You wanted to help me in understanding the Victorian style of dressing and have a better understanding of that 19th century look... You knew my next assignment is based on it... You are such a cool friend... THANK YOU...
The first word that escaped my mouth was.."WHAT..." I was completely shocked by what she understood... I just felt so exasperated... "You really didn't get anything else apart from dressing Nandini..."
Nandini- (innocently) ya Manik... Kyun is there more I should have understood...
I sighed and leaned backward on the couch and said... "No... nothing else... Ya your assignment... go work on it..." She smiled at me and left...
I felt frustrated and threw all the cushions on the floor to vent out my anger... "Like how...how could she be such a... She makes a romantic movie into a history show... And then misses the kissing scene... And then thinks I wanted to help her in some stupid assignment of hers... dammm... "
I was so pissed off that I switched off the T.V. and sat on the couch thinking... "Manik what were you thinking hhuhhh... I just hope my desires don't get sunk like TITANIC..."
