It is the story of Sudha and Chander. Chander is the protege of Sudha's father and Chander and Sudha grew up together.
They share a beautiful relationship and Sudha always listens to Chander. But story takes a turn when Sudha's father asks Chander to tell Sudha to marry a man of his choice. Sudha obeys Chander and marries Kailash.
The story then goes on tell how that sacrifice by Chander and Sudha affects not only them, but the whole society.
