Soak a tennis ball sized lump of tamarind with a fairly big piece of jaggery (if you like the dish to have a sweet taste)
Extract the pulp and set it aside
A fistful of thick avalakki per person to be ground coarsely in the blender
Two table spoons of grated copra
Cilantro
Gojju powder (similar to rasam powder, but contains a little more jeera, white til and khas)
Soak the ground avalakki in the tamarind/jaggery juice add salt as per taste and gojju powder to the mix. Mix with hand till the ingredients blend. Leave it overnight for best results.
Prepare tadka with olive oil, mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal, hing, haldi, two red chillies, curry leaves and ground nuts.
Add the soaked mix to the tadka in a wok, cover it and keep it over low flame for a little over 5 mins. Open the lid and add grated coconut and cilantro and mix.
