A lil envy...
Ranjan returned in moments, he let go of her.. or atleast let her pull back a lil as she heard the car
"Arey? dono neeche?" he smiled seeing them by the Monet
"Appa aaye the" II mumbled disoriented, taking cover behind her husband
"Where is he?" Ranjan asked
"He just left"
I WENT TO SEE HIM OFF
AND RAKSHASAN AMBUSHED ME BY THE MONET
NOTHING NEW HERE SO... UMM.. YA... DAD MOVE ALONG
R&B held her hand securely
As she gently tugged...
"Kya khila rahe ho raat ko?" he asked proprietorially
"that reminds me I did not take that half pill to control nausea" she mumbled
"BETAAA" he reprimanded her
"I wanted to go to D II tomorrow" she approached the Principal when the teacher wouldnt approved her request
"Kal chada hai IV... na puttar na" Ranjan didnt give it a second thought
"BUT DAD... I am not going to stay there the whole 9 months" II began to whine
"Chale jaana puttar... but ruk jayin thoda" Ranjan mumbled walking towards his room
She dragged her held hand and chased him down
"Even YOU could go with me" she offered
He chuckled but didnt looked back
"DADDD PLEASEEE" she begged
Ranjan laughed out loud and paused turned to his son
"Tujhe bhi karti hai inna pareshaan?" he asked
R&B had a "What do u think?" look on his face
"Gall sun puttar" he began
"Nahi Dad aap pehle sunen" she began
"Haye rabba..." Ranjan shook his head
"Dad"
"Gal sun, 10 min de, main ek phone kar loon?" Ranjan begged her
"Uske baad promise?"
"Manya yaad aa gayi mujhe." He said staring at II's innocent pleading face
"Manya vi, vilkul aiyvayin... ek dum... peechha nahi chhodti jab usko kuch chahiye" Ranjan smiled
"Phir aap usko allow kar dete, nahi?" II argued
"DEKH!! Baat ka peechha nahi chhodti teri biwi" Ranjan poked his son with a finger
"II" R&B gently intercepted
"Nee iru da... you wont let me go, why cant I ask him?" Ii argued "Given a choice u two will not let me step out of the house"
"Shhh... give him some time" R&B requested
II mumbled and sulked and stepped back
"YOU live with your family. I dont... I will have to go see them" II declared... a lil envious of
Rakshasan's privilege of being able to live the life of a reluctant son
ranjan turned from the doorway of his room
"Good luck" Ranjan WINKED at his son and went in

Akka put away Amma's folded laundry
"If he wont talk YOU do tell ur mother in law clearly "NO NOT POSSIBLE Amma. The baby is 9 weeks and I have just returned to Munirka, PLEASE dont expect me to cook for yet another person" Amma ranted softly
The nurse was in the adjacent room
Akka looked beat and annoyed
Bala's Uncle was hoping to send his granddaughter over to Delhi. They lived in Tirunelveli. The granddaughter
had completed engineering in Coimbatore and a Gurgaon IT company had offered her a job
she needed a place to stay, since she didnt speak the language. Bala was pitching it to Vandu saying "It will only be for 6 months until she finds a hostel"
But Amma was very suspicious of her son in law, when it came to his family his hearing and voice both didnt work
"U KNOW Bala ma if he gets wind of the fact that I told my mother in law he will explode" Akka whined
"Adukosram? U cannot take on yet another person Vandu!!!!!!" Amma was outraged
"Hmpphhh" Akka grunted
"kamakshi Athai is never in her son's house in NOIDA ALWAYS here, Athai's husband doesnt budge from the
native place, but Athai, his wife is constantly at her nephew's house in Munirka" Amma was ranting "In which world is all this ridiculous turn of events OK?"
"Uve been wanting to have a second ne for 7 years, and after such risky pregnancy youve safely delivered. KONJAN YOJIKKA VENDAAM AVALUM? (shudnt they be using their brains a lil?)
Bala is not a inn keeper in Delhi no? How can he constantly take care of random relatives?" Amma questioned Akka rhetorically
"bala allows it no" Akka mumbled
"ITS HIS GOOD NATURE" amma dismissed "But there is a limit no?"
"So how long will Vaishnavi stay? 6 months is never 6 months. I met Bala's Uncle's daughter in law
(Vaishnavi's mom) at ur wedding. SO LAZY she was back then with a 10 and 7 year old she slept all day at the satharam"
(wedding hall) Even Bala did not do so much son in law antics, she wanted coffee every two hours" Amma recalled
Amma had a lightning sharp memory... she hated people exploiting her kids, brought back ugly memories of how she was saddled with Periappa from day one
She didnt hate Periappa but hated her daughters' lives turning into a mirror image of hers
"U work, take care of ur in laws, a almost 11 year old a new baby, and now a 21 year old?" Amma re arranged some of II's left behind clothing in II's Godrej
"Appa has gone to MM, God knows what has happened, he hasnt even called," amma expressed another fear
"Dont worry ma"
"U DONT KNOW. Something about R&B makes Appa lose it. AVANO. He is exponentially more pidivadam than Appa (ziddi)" amma chuckled
"U think they would have come to blows?" Akka giggled
"PODI!! what are u saying? I told him to change into pant, he changed into a newer VESHTI saying "Well he knew he was marrying an Iyer's daughter, so why should I pretend"
Akka laughed
"he went to a bungalow in Malcha Marg wearing a veshti" Amma was squirming
"so what ma"
"They are such good people Appa is always disgruntled" Amma opined
"I know..." Akka nodded
"When I went I waited downstairs for a bit and looked around... their furniture alone will be a few crores, not to mention the wall stuff" Amma sighed
Akka stared at Amma...
"They are very well off" Akka mumbled
"Our entire families from Madurai, Tanjore and Pudukottai and Karaikudi could fit into that house" Amma laughed harmlessly
Akka nodded a lil envious turning away from the Godrej and going off to sit in II's divan
She wished she had another room... thats it... one extra room..
"I will make tea, u feed him" Amma sighed turning and shutting the Godrej
"Tell Bala if u cant tell ur mother in law... if Vaishnavi is anything like her mother she will be lazy and sit on her butt all day" Amma scoffed
"There is a few more weeks left ma" Vandu reminded
"Before u know it 9 weeks will be up, already we are in the 5th week" she gently caressed baldie's head
He lay there stretching after a looong nap... a hairy everywhere but head creature
"Talela eppo da mudi varum onakku?" (when will we see hair on the head?") Amma bent over the bed and kissed him hard
"Chithi wants to call u by a train name, and u are bald. What a life" Amma laughed on his soft tubular cheek
"shatabdi" Akka said fondly
"When he shakes his arms and feet so fast I think the name suits him" Amma said proudly
"Paati can I HAVE SOME MORE MURUKKU" Shravu stood at the door way holding a tiny steel cup
He stared at his Amma and Paati fawn over his brother... and turned away in envy unable to look

Ranjan changed into a track pant and tee
Shook his head as he peeked out the door, he expected II to be sitting on the floor cross legged waiting...
"dad please kyon nahi ja sakti"

The begging was so endearing, and so affectionate
II did not have any motives. She loved her family deeply. She respected authority, she could have snuck off during the day but she ASKED
Like Manya...
Now Manya did what she wanted, he sighed sitting on the bed... he stared at a "gold" pen Vik had given him, it lay on the night stand
He had texted her Thursday morning 7 AM Australia time to tell her
"BUA UTHAO" he had texted
"REALLY DAD? I am awake... try something else next time. otherwise I will hate u as much as I hate the lab tech right now" Manya was grumpy
"Arey nahi, sahi mein" he texted
She CALLED
"WHAT ARE U SAYING?" DAD?" she asked startled
"Baat to sach hai puttar, tu chahe na maan" he chuckled
She HUNG UP ON HIM AND CALLED DIMPAL
"U ROTTEN STINKING JERK. U WAITED UNTIL I RETURNED TO SYDNEY AND STARTED THE SEMSTER?" she yelled
He laughed
"Howd u know?" he asked
"WHY did u plan to keep it a secret... u bas***d" she yelled
"A lil difficult dont u think?" he argued logically
"AH" she cursed
"thanks"
"I CANT BELIEVE IT. IS IT TRUE?" Manya asked
"Yep" he nodded
"Where is she?" Manya asked softly, a lil envious
"asleep"
"A new baby huh?" Manya said it aloud
"Yep" he repeated
"Dimpal is going to be a Dad?" she asked stunned
