Amar Singh(AS):Ranima,humne kaha na humme vahi uphaar chahiye
Ajabde:Nahi kunwarji,hum bhala vo aapko kaise de sakte hain?
AS:Kintu ranima,aapne humme vachan diya tha ki iss baar apne janamdin par hum aapse jo bhi mangenge vo aap humme lakar dengi.
Ajab:Parantu amar singhji,jo uphaar aapko chahiye usse lana humare liye kya ,kisi ke liye bhi asambhav hai.
AS:Nahi ranima humme vo abhi chahiye(sobbing)Yadi aap nahi layi toh hum aapse rusht ho jayenge.
Ajab:Kunwarji ab bhala ye kaisi hath hai?
At that very moment Kunwar pratap entered the room hearing the sobs of AS.
Kp:Kya hua amar,aap iss tarah ro kyun rahe hain? Aapki ranima ne aapse kuch keh diya kya?
AS(running to him and hugging him tight):Dajiraj,dekhiye na,ranima ne humme vachan diya tha ki hum iss baar apne janamdin par unse jo bhi mangenge,ve humme uphaar swaroop awashya dengi.Humne apne janmadin par toh unse kuch nahi manga kintu aaj jab humne unse uphaar lane ko kaha toh ve apni baat se mukar rahi hain.
Kp(confused):Aisa kyun ajabde?
Ajab:Aap swayam inse hi puch lijiye.Ab aisi bhet toh koi bhi inhe nahi de sakta.
Kp:Par aisa kya mang liya hai inhone? Accha chaliye,amar ab aap hi humme batayiye,kya chahiye aapko?
AS:Nahi dajiraj,pehle aap humme vachan dijiye ki aap humme vo uphaar swaroop awashya denge.
Ajabde nodded her head and tried to signal and stop him from agreeing to it but by then it was too late.
Kp:Accha thik hai,hum vachan dete hain.Ab batayiye.
AS(pointing towards the sky):Humme vo chahiye dajiraj.
Kp(looking up,noticing the moon ,getting shocked and looking again at AS):Kya? Hum samjhe nahi amar singhji.
AS:Vahi, vo chandrama.Kitna sundar haina vo.Ek baar yadi vo humare paas aajaye toh hum unhe kahin nahi jane denge.Yahin rakhenge usse,apne saath.
Kp was both astonished and terrified at this.On one hand was his 3-year-old son demanding the moon as a gift-which he knew was rather impossible and on the other was the word he had given to him-a rajput's word which was never broken. Moreover,he did not wish to break his son's heart by refusing to it.He knew he had to find a way out-but what?He stood puzzled for a few minutes,trying to figure a way out.Millions of lame thoughts made him sweat and send shivers down his spine until at last,an idea struck him.
Meanwhile,AS was constantly nagging him.He was shaking his hand and interrogating continuously,which was hardly audible to him,him being lost in his own line of thought.
AS:Dajiraj,boliye na,aap toh apna vachan nibhayenge na? Aap lakar denge na humme humara uphaar?Boliye na dajiraj..boliya na..
Kp(coming out of it):Haan? Haan awashya,kyun nahi?Ek kshana rukiye,hum bas abhi aaye.
Ajabde was left thinking at these words of his and she tried to prevent him from going further.
Ajab:Kp,aap ye kya keh rahe hain? Aap jante haina ki chandrama ko uphaar swaroop lana asambhav hai? Toh phir aap amar se keh kyun nahi dete? Ve samajh jayenge...hum samjha denge unhe.
Kp:Uski koi awashyakta nahi hai ajabde.Aur phir,hum lakar denge na unhe.Aap chinta na karein.Aur kisne keh diya aapse ki chandrama ko lana asambhav hai? Humare liye kuch bhi asambhav nahi!(smiling naughtily and winking to her)Hum bas abhi aaye.
He went out of the room and soon returned back,with a silver thali.
AS(excitedly):Aap aa gaye dajiraj! Toh aap kaise lane wale hain chandrama ko?
Kp:Vo sab aap hum par chod dijiye.Aap ye thali dekh rahe hain?
AS:Haan..
Kp:Ye koi sadharan thal nahi hai.Ye ek vishesh thal hai jisse hum chandrama ko pakad payenge.
AS:Kya sach? Toh phir jaldi se pakdiye na.
Ajabde understood what kp was upto.The idea was indeed clever but she began thinking of the consequences of it.How would AS react when he finds no moon in the thal the next morning? And how would KP justify it?She grew a little worried and again tried to stop him.
Ajab:Kp,humme nahi lagta ki aapko aisa karna chahiye...
Kp(reassuring her):Aap chinta na karein ajabde,hum sab sambhal lenge.
AS:Dajiraj,shighra layiye na chandrama ko.Hum aur pratiksha nahi kar sakte.
Kp:Haan haan amar singhji.Bas thodi si pratiksha aur.
He placed the thali on the window sill and then took the jug of drinking water in the room.He slowly poured the water into the thal while AS looked at him ,amazed.
Kp:Accha ab apni ankhein band kijiye,shighra.
He did as instructed to him,very obediently and Kp slowly brought him close to where the thal was kept.
Kp(walking with him):Jab tak hum na kahein tab tak apni aankhein mat kholiyega...haan,ab aap apni aankhein khol sakte hain.
AS slowly open his eyes and beholding the moon before him,in the thal,his joy knew no bounds! He began to jump with all his excitement.
AS:Dhanyawad dajiraj! Hum jante they ki aap apna vachan awashya pura karenge.Dekha ranima,humne kaha tha na aapse ki humare dajiraj ke liye kuch bhi asambhav nahi hai.
Kp and ajab smiled at their son's childish innocence.The apple of their eyes,his happiness was undoubtedly enough to please their hearts.
Kp:Accha ab raat bahut ho gayi hai.Ab toh chanda mama aapke paas aa gaye hain.Toh chaliye ab so jayiye.
AS:Ji dajiraj!
Ajabde sang a beautiful lullaby,in her most melodious voice,sending both the father and son to the world of dreams.She too fell asleep soon.
The next morning,AS woke up quite late,as a result of his late night wish for the moon.He found his dajiraj and ranima gone to their daily duties while his chand buasa was left behind to awake him.
Chand:Utha gaye aap amar?
AS(yawning and stretching a bit):Ji buasa.
He got out of bed and the first thing he did was to go and have a look at his chandamama in the thal.But surprisingly,he found that the thal had been covered with a piece of cloth.He was shocked and he turned to chand.
AS:Buasa,ye thal..isse dhaka kisne?
Chand:Humme..humme nahi pata kunwarji.Par uss thali mein tha kya?
AS:Chandrama issi mein they buasa.
Chand(surprised):Ye aap kya keh rahe hain?..
And before she could continue AS extended his hand to remove the cloth and check if the moon was still in there.At once,a hand stopped him from doing that.It was none other than kp.
Kp:Ruk jayiye amar singhji.
AS:Dajiraj,ye thal..isse dhaka kisne hai? Aur aap humme rok kyun rahe hain? Hum toh keval ek baar dekhna chahte they chandrama ko...
Kp:Humne hi dhaka hai isse amar.Yadi hum nahi dhakte toh ve iss thal se bhag khade hote.
AS:Kya? Kintu..kyun? kaise?
Kp:Kunwarji,jab din ka samay hota hai toh chandrama aakash se chale jate hain.Vaise hi yadi hum iss thal ko nahi dhakte toh ve yahan se bhi bhagne ka prayas karte.Isliye,bhoolvash bhi iss vastra ko yahan se mat hatayiyega.
AS(convinced):Accha aisa hai.Phir toh hum din mein kya raat ko bhi isse nahi hatayenge.Hum nahi chahte ki ye yahan se kahin bhi jayein.
Kp knew that his plan was working out and that
Coincidently,being the rainy season,the moon remained covered beneath the clouds,for a few days after that.It rained heavily in the mornings and evenings so AS was unable to go and play with his mates.Also,since he found the moon missing in the skies at night,he felt happy and confident that the chandamama was with him now and so he couldn't go anywhere else.
After the rains,when finally the skies cleared,AS was the first to move to the playgrounds to meet his friends.But quite unexpectedly,they didn't look cheerful or in a mood to play and frolick around.They were sitting beneath a tree,looking disappointed.
AS:Kya baat hai mitron,aap sab iss tarah yahan shant kyun baithe hain?Chaliye kuch khelte hain.
Kunwar Yuvraj(KY):Kunwar Amar,hum sabka aaj kuch bhi khelne ka mann nahi hai.
AS:Kintu kyun?
Kunwar Raj(KR):Kunwar amar,hum sab prasanna nahi hain.Vo kya haina,bahut din ho gaye,chandamama raat ko nikalte hi nahi.Aur hum sabka unhe dekhe bina mann nahi lagta.
KY:Bilkul sahi kaha KR ne.Lagta hai kisi ne humare chandamama ka apaharan kar liya hai.
KR:Jisne bhi ye kiya haina hum usse chodenge nahi.
Kunwar Vijay(KV)(showing the dagger):Haan hum toh usse iss khanjar se marenge.
When AS heard all of this,his heart sank.He considered himself the wrongdoer,knowingly or unknowingly.He realized how wrong he was to demand the moon all for himself.He repented on this and felt that he had snatched the rights of the other children by keeping everybody's chandamama for himself.He felt his friends would hate him for what he did.
KY:Aap kuch bolte kyun nahi Kunwar amar? Kya aapko chandamama ki kami nahi khalti?Aapko nahi lagta ki uss vyakti ko uchit dand milna chahiye?
AS:Vo hum...humme kuch awashyak karya karna hai.Humme ab chalna chahiye.
He ran at his top speed back to the rajmahal.At the gates,he stopped for breath and again resumed his race back to his dajiraj and ranima.
AS(panting and breathing heavily):Dajiraj...dajiraj..
Kp:Kya hua amar singji? Ek kshana rukiye aur phir kahiye.
AS:Dajiraj,humme ab chandamama ko apne paas nahi rakhna hai.Aap abhi chaliye humare saath aur unhe chod dijiye.
Kp(confused at the sudden change in him):Kintu kyun amar? Itne prayason se toh apne unhe paya hai.
AS:Dajiraj,hum galat they,bahut galat.Aur humare karan hi humare sabhi mitra dukhi hain.Kyunki humne unse chandamama ko cheen liya hai.Aur hum unhe dukhi nahi dekh sakte hain dajiraj.Apni hath mein hum ye bhool gaye they ki chandrama toh iss vishwa ke sabhi balakon ke liye hain.Yadi hum unhe apne paas rakh lenge toh ve sabhi dukhi ho jayenge na?Humme awashya hi dand milna chahiye.(with tears in his eyes)Hum kitne bure haina?
Ajab(moved with his innocence and selflessness):Aisa mat kahiye amar singhji.Aapko apni bhool ka ehsaas hai yahi bahut hai.Aur aapne kuch galat nahi kiya hai.Chaliye,aapke dajiraj aapke chandamama ko vapas mukt kar denge.
AS:Dajiraj,aap aisa karenge na?
Kp:Haan,haan kyun nahi?Chaliye aap apni aankhein band kijiye.
As AS closed his eyes,Kp removed the cloth from the thali and threw the water away.
Kp:Chaliye ,ve chale gaye.
AS(cheerfully):Chale gaye!(shouting in excitement)Aapka bahut bahut dhanyawad dajiraj.Aur hum aapko vachan dete hain ki hum dobara aisa kabhi nahi karenge.Kabhi nahi mangenge chandrama ko apne liye,vachan.
Kp:Accha thik hai.Aur aap chinta mat kijiye,ab aapke mitra aapse rusht bhi nahi honge.Ab shighra jayiye aur unke saath kheliye.Ve sabhi aapki pratiksha kar rahe honge na?
AS(chirpily):Ji dajiraj.Ab hum chalte hain.Agya dijiye.
Kp:Ji!
The bullet train started again and this time it was back only after the sunset,after a whole game of sitoliya.He had his dinner and slept early,without worrying his ranima a bit.
After AS was fast asleep,kp and ajab stood at the window of the room,looking out at the skies where the moon was spreading its light,brighter than ever.
Ajab:Humare putra kitne nischal haina,apne mitron ko ve dukhi hi nahi dekh sakte.Aur kitne bhole bhi,unhe pata hi nahi chala ki unke chandamama kabhi uss thal mein they hi nahi.Aur kabhi aa bhi nahi sakte!Humme garv hai apne putra par.
Kp:Humme bhi ajabde.Kintu ye baalman hota hi aisa hai.Ve ,humare balyakal ke bhi kya din they na ajabde.
Ajab:Haan kp.Parantu ek baat toh manni hogi,aapka upaay bahut hi accha tha.Aur aapne unhe pata hi nahi chalne diya ki uss paatra mein vastav mein chandrama hai hi nahi.
Kp:Dhanyawad ajabde.Vaise humari toh jaan hi nikal gayi thi jab ve uss vastra ko vahan se hata rahe they.
Ajab:Haan kp.Vo toh accha hua ki aap samay par vahan pahunch gaye.
Kp:Inki hath bhi kuch kam nahi hai.'Dajiraj,humme chandrama chahiye..'(laughing)
Ajab(laughing):Aur ve kitne prasanna ho gaye they jab aapne unse ye kaha ki chandamama punah aakash ki aor laut gaye.
Kp:Ve chandrama jo kabhi vahan they hi nahi(laughing)Aur vo sab toh keval prakriti aur rituon ka khel tha jo aakash mein chandrama nahi they.
Ajab:Aapne bahut acche se sab kuch sambhal liya,varna hum toh ghabra hi gaye they.Aur ye bhi accha hua ki ab ve kabhi dobara aisi koi bhent nahi mangenge.(laughing)Aur bhala chandrama prithvi par kisi vyakti ke paas ho sakta hai bhala?Chahte toh sabhi hain bachpan mein kintu milta nahi.
Kp(naughtily and looking at her):Vaise,humme kabhi chahne ki bhi awashyakta nahi hai.Kyunki humare paas chandrama pehle se hi hai.
Ajabde was left blushing at his comment.She looked again at her sleeping son and smiled at his innocence and purity of heart.
