In our community in Karnataka we do naming ceremony at 9th day of baby born if everything goes smooth.

We make baby to wear small Lingam in  the neck with thread and apply Vibhuthi on forehead... It is like on this day the baby is joining our community...

Its the 11th day in Iyers. As usual the wealthy go OTT. Its usually panditji, both families, havan and a fabulous meal, in the evening they lay the baby in the cradle, spread a bed of grains underneath and write the name of the baby on it

Friends are invited in the evening for food  and in turn offer blessings to the baby. "Most" Iyer ceremonies are low key and involves LOTS of praying and chanting. These days I hear we compete with Rishi Kapoor's family or Amitabh's family in doing too much dhinchak and tamasha, infact ONLY dhinchak and tamasha

Iyer girls are shunning Kanjeevarams in favor of Anarkalis and hideous dejyner wear unworthy of being called "creation". Iyers are running as fast as they can from their cultures and rituals I am told😆

You know Vibhu we need to apply daily morning/evening and do pooja... But younger generation doesn't follow... If I am home will apply both the times except period days...
Our community worship only lord Shiva in Karnataka...

Our naming function is also very low key...only two families are involved...we do only pooja and no homa.. The baby's Atte(dad's sister) will whisper the name in baby's ear...
