After winning
millions of
hearts as their
high-school/
college heartthrobs on their
various TV outings, young actors
are looking at family dramas on
Hindi GECs to reach a larger
audience. This has seen the
onscreen image of these young
hotties undergo a sea change
like skirts being replaced by
sarees and casual shirts and cool
tees having been replaced by
colorful kurtas. Needless to say,
from issues related to studies,
friendships and love, the young
on the prime time have now
graduated to shouldering family
responsibilities.
And included in the bandwagon
of such actors now are Shivin
Narang, Vishal Vashishta, Yuvraj
Thakur Charlie Chauhan, and
Sonia Balani. Producer Yash
Patnaik of Veera... says, "Young
actors have the passion to prove
their mettle because they're still
sort of new. While doing youth
shows, they cater to a limited
audience but when they do a
show on a Hindi GEC, they reach
a wider set of audiences that
includes a lot of people of all
walks of life. Playing a teenager
is unidimensional and comes
naturally to them. But in doing a
family drama, they have to show
a lot of emotions; there is a lot
of layering in the character."
