After being a home maker for the past 6 years, actress Gautami Kapoor goes back to something that she loves doing- acting.

The talented actress, who recently made a comeback to the small screen with Zee TV'sKhelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi, talks about her career, husband Ram Kapoor and her latest show.

What made you sign the show?
I was looking to comeback to TV and I wanted to work for a really long time but things were not materializing. Sometimes either the script was average or the distance of the sets was too far. Sometimes the roles that were offered to me wanted too much time commitment so I was waiting. But when Essel came to me with 'Ankh Micholi', the minute they gave me the narration, I told Ram I want to do this show. It's very close to the person I am and that is what made easy for me to do the show. I am glad that I didn't do the other stuff that I was offered.

How was the first day on the sets of Ankh Micholi?
On the first day, I was more nervous of leaving my kids at home for the entire day because for the last six years, I have been there every single day. Since Ram is so busy, I am almost like a single parent because I juggle between the house, school and everything. He's working too hard so we understand each other. We know how TV schedules are and on top of that he's also juggling with film shoots. For the last four years, things have been tough for him work wise. But my daughter did something very special. She came to me and said "Mom I am very proud of you" and she made a card for me. I instantly felt that the decision I have made is a correct one.

Now, that you are back on TV are you ready for the grueling session? Yes, I am. As an actor you are always prepared for it and if you love your job nothing is grueling, one actually enjoys the process. That's what I am doing. I missed acting for long so now when I am back, I am not pressurized. Also I believe I get a lot of perks for being Mrs. Ram Kapoor. I enjoy that and I know it comes with a lot of responsibility.

How have things changed in the TV industry in the past few years?
Television then and now has changed a lot. The shelf life of a show is very less and that is really sad. Nowadays, shows are pulled off air left, right and center. I think the channel, the production house and audiences' do not have the patience to let the show grow. If one track doesn't work and the TRP's plunge the show is taken off air. No one waits for another track to work. Also there's no bank of episodes created, they shoot in the morning and the episode is telecast on the same day. Hence the quality of the show also suffers.

I was scared and was wondering if I will be able to cope with this working environment. But then as an actor I think you have to just deal with it. The best thing that Ram told me is, " Go there and have fun, do your best and leave the rest", which is what I am following.

Are you happy that Pavitra Rishta's replacement role didn't happen?
I don't know as I haven't done that role but after 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' where I replaced Smriti Irani (which was a big replacement), this role of Shruti is a change for me. I will do it the way I want to do it. There will be no comparisons at all. I will play the character of Shruti as per my understanding and that will be the benchmark. I feel really happy and less pressurized that I don't have to fill into somebody's shoes.
Do you watch TV and which TV shows do you follow?
Yes, I do watch TV. I like 'Qubool Hai'. I have got hooked on to that show. I really like it and even if I miss it, I watch it on You tube. 'Bade Achhe..', I used to follow but honestly it comes at 10:30 and I have the habit of sleeping at 9:30-10 so for me to stay up till 10:30 is impossible. I catch the key episodes when Ram tells me to watch a particular episode or scene. I don't watch it regularly.

Any newcomer's on TV who you find promising?
I really like the small Pihu (Amrita Mukherjee). She is fabulous. People usually think that she is our daughter since she resembles Ram. I have seen her on the show and I think she is phenomenal. Reem on my show Aankh Micholi is good too. I like Sanaya Irani, she's a good friend. When she was making her debut on TV I kept telling her don't do it, its a lot of hard work but now that she is doing so well, I am really happy for her.
