My review of Satyagraha π
Did watch Satyagraha and like anything had its ups and down.
Had more downs than ups I would say. Screenplay was too weak and loose. Failed to establish proper link between things and felt story was jumping from one point to another all of a sudden. Jha made attempt to show many real issues hoping to incorporate it all under Satyagraha but felt too crowded.
His direction was also poor, some things were like are you kidding us or what? Generally speaking there is one central character and story may revolve around him/her. But then some stories are more about the concept than any one individual character. Satyagraha failed to do either one. He sure evoked the right emotions and strong ones at that, but failed to let them stay long enough and again brought something else.
As per acting, Rampal was just there, nothing much for him to contribute. Kareena for me simply wasted some screen space. Didn't know why she was smiling so much when reporting, how come she became committee member of campaign being a "reporter" and at times showed unnecessary attitude. Also few dialogues spoken by all appeared OTT.
Jha tried to portray complicated relationship between Big B and AD character but that too wasn't handled as good as it should have.
For music, 2 songs are great -Raghupati Raghav and Mad se bhare tore nain, others appeared so superficial. Even mad se bhare nain can look out of place as story really had no scope for lubb nonsense.
Despite all of this I would recommend the movie for 3 reasons; Big B, AD and MB. All the were damn good.π Manoj Bajpai was too good as dirty scamster politician. AD did perfect job as man surrounded by various issues compelling him to make decisions with subtly. Big B sure gave one of the best performance of his life as old man battling system that starts from one issue and takes bigger form as he moves on, while going through personal grief.
I think even the ending could've been better.
