Mohit SuriDirector Mohit Suri, who has directed musical "Aashiqui 2?, says he feels more responsible towards those audiences who haven't seen the original 1990 film.

"I feel more responsible making 'Aashiqui 2' for those people who don't know about 'Aashiqui'. People who are 21 or 22 years old, or like my cousin Alia, who wasn't born that time. I feel more responsibility to connect to those people," said Suri.

"The people who have already watched 'Aashiqui' will come to watch it to pull it down. They will come to say that 'Aashiqui' was good. I want to connect to those who don't know about the music of that 'Aashiqui'. I know there are few (such people), but that's the responsibility," he added.

The original "Aashiqui", directed by Mahesh Bhatt, featured Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal.

The new movie, releasing April 26, stars Kunal Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. It is not the sequel to the old film, but they share a similarity in the fact that both are musical sagas and romantic stories.

Asked about the commercial viability of the movie, Suri said: "The film stands alone on its own ground. I won't be making this film with newcomers if I was in that ball game of Rs.100 crore."

I loved the music and songs of Aashiqui and remember watching it had come out. Can't believe so much time has elapsed already. I am looking forward to the music of this one, hopefully it'll be as good.

And why does he think people of 23 or younger don't know about the craze for Aashiqui's music? The music was popular during the whole 90's and even now people listen to it...

If the new movie is not a sequel to the older one, then why did they name it Ashiqui 2? Bhatts just want to cash in on the curiosity of people who've already watched Ashiqui and liked it. Why to play with words and simply say that the movie is for newer generation when they are actually trying to pull in the older generation to theatres?

Same goes for Murder series. The movies are all different but they are named Murder 2, 3 etc. just in order to cash in on the Murder title. This whole idea of giving unrelated (even genre wise) movies same name is really ridiculous. Bhatts specialize in this strategy of taking advantage of their better movies to sell their newer cheap products.

according to this logic, nobody should know the movie released before his / her birth. is he on twitter or something? someone should send him a link of dexterkilaila's "guess the movie" thread

and what does he mean? is alia still unaware of aashiqui movie? 😕

Exactly! Nothing will debunk his theory better than that. 😆By that logic, I should not be familiar with any films made in the 60s, 70s, 80s.😆😆
