Yes, it has both merits and demerits...but more merits if you are with good company of people and you know whom to make friends with and all.

Some of the foods which I doesn't like much have become my favourites after staying in the hostel as those where the only things eatable 😆

yes, it has both merits & demerits. you can have your friends & batchmates there. you can find some affectinate seniors/roommates. my sister is lucky in this case. her roomates tolerate her nonsense. they take care of her. she likes hostel's tea more than home's😆😆...but everyone is not lucky. one of my friends had horrible experience because of her rommate. the roomie was senior to her. so, my frind tolerated her.
