Later I went on to Famous Five and Secret Seven and in the middle of all those lazy summer days- a bottle of coke and a packet of chips,Enid Blyton made me fall head over heels in love with reading.I don't even remember the number of times I have read those adventures of George Julian Dick Anne and Timmy!! There was something so real and yet so exciting about tree houses and the best part was that in all Enid Blyton books there are descriptions of delicious meal [Greedy me!] So apart from being a good read it has always been something which increased my appetiteπ
One beautiful thing about an Enid Blyton is that all generations can read it without getting bored-My mom used to be a big fan of them and then I grew to love each book till the pages yellowed and maybe down the lane somewhere even my own kids would read it with equal enjoyment!!Even today I can see my younger cousins beginning their journey of reading with a secret seven in hand...that is the magic of the Author whose brilliance can't be conveyed in words!
Today one of the most favourite gifts from my father which I cherish is a three in one version of the famous five-I think the date and the sign says 2003 :) Now I am a teenager and maybe I have reached out to older books,I have even taken to writing fan fiction but the magic of reading was still enlisted in me through those absolutely frigging amazing series of books!!
One of the most hilarious memories of my life was when I realised that Enid Blyton was a womanπ€£ No I am seriously not kidding! I had assumed that the person must be a man - i don't know why and then when I was ten *boom* I got to know she was a woman!
Anyhow I still feel a sense of longing to go back to being a kid whenever I see an Enid Blyton stacked in the innumerous bookstores my eyes waver into.It is still equally famous as ever-maybe because childhood surpasses times and countries and you might be sitting in the 21st century but you still can't help shivering in excitement as you read about Tinker and his lighthouse!
In the end all I can say is that this might be the least I can do to appreciate an author who pretty much made my childhood :D When I read the last book of Malory Towers I almost cried because it ended and the child in me made me want to go up there and bring back Enid Blyton to continue what she had left! There are a million abridged versions of her books right now,but no one can ever bring the magic she played about with simple strings of words!
