Green eyes & Archangel
"Angad Khanna, 12 B", said the airhostess, as Angad made his way towards his assigned seat. He had not slept for the last 2 days. His dark hair fell on his forehead giving him a sexily rumpled look. He wore smart casuals, a dark brown pullover, with black jeans and a beige jacket. His normally sparkling brown eyes were dull because of lack of sleep. His long, confident stride still attracted a second look. But he was not interested in those eyes trailing him; all he wanted was to find his seat and sleep.
Kripa was feeling both sad and excited at the thought of going to India. She had been born and brought up in London by her grandfather, Viven Sharma. They were shifting to Delhi, because her grandfather had just had a heart attack. Though it was not life threatening, but doctor has advised constant vigilance. Her grandfather, kappa wanted to spend the rest of his days in India, where he had lived with his wife, Kripa's grandmother. Kappa and bhai will be coming by a later flight, because bhai has some last minute things to wrap up. Kappa has to go through one final medical examination before being cleared to fly. So here Kripa sat contemplating her future, when she felt someone settle in the seat beside her.
Angad watched in amusement at the girl seating at 12 A. She wore cropped pants, with an oversized T-Shirt, her hair was pulled back in a pony tail, and her eyes were hidden behind huge glasses. She looked not more than 17. Finally the twinkle missing in his eyes was back and his lips smiled for the first time in two days. The expression on Kripa's face changed from one of frowning displeasure at his insolent appraisal to dreamy satisfaction. He wondered what had happened to bring about such a change. But before he could give it much thought his eye lids drooped and he gave in to exhaustion.
Kripa watched in wonder at the face of the archangel, sitting beside her. He looked sexily rumpled, yet he was the handsomest man she had seen in her life. The smile that had mesmerized her was still there on his face though he looked like he was sleeping. Kripa had never seen anyone fall asleep so quickly. Kripa continued to look at him all through take off, but finally she also gave in to sleep.
"We will be landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport shortly, guests are requested to tie their seat belts and straighten their seats." The announcement woke Angad up. He found his neighbor sleeping peacefully. Her glasses dangling from an ear, while her head rested on his shoulder. He saved her glasses from their precarious position by removing them. Kripa woke up with a start and looked up to see the archangel staring at her. Everything was hazy, except a pair of dark brown eyes staring at her intently as if she were a microorganism being studied under a microscope. She shifted her gaze from those eyes and started looking for her glasses. She had not removed them before falling asleep, so they must be somewhere on her person, only to find the archangel holding them out for her. She took them from him uttered a flustered thanks and stood up to get down only to find him still staring at her intently. Finally after what seemed like eons, he blinked, and got up.
Angad had never seen such beautiful eyes. They were greenish gold. He wondered why she hid such pretty eyes behind those awful glasses. He looked around to get a last glimpse of those eyes but she was nowhere to be found. Kripa had gone to the washroom to wash off sleep from her face. She had missed her first glimpse of Delhi from the aircraft window, because of the archangel but now she didn't want to miss a single bit of her homeland. She walked out of the airport, to find the taxies lined up. The rickshaws she had heard so much about were nowhere to be found. Apparently only taxies and cars were allowed on this terminal. So she went to the pre paid taxi stand as advised by Kappa and booked a taxi to GK1-M Block, where there home was in Delhi.
She looked up at sky to find sun playing hide and seek. It was a cloudy day, though the rays were visible; the sun was nowhere to be found. It was not too hot or too cold, which was a rarity in Delhi known for its extreme climatic conditions. Light wind was blowing teasing her curls as if welcoming her. She smiled and boarded the taxi.
