Shyamalan Writes Children's Tale

By WENN| Wednesday, March 22, 2006

HOLLYWOOD - Director M. Night Shyamalan is venturing into the world of children's literature--releasing picture book Lady in the Water to coincide with the release of his film of the same name.
The book, due June 21, was originally written as a bedtime story for Shyamalan's children.

The story centers on an apartment building superintendent who rescues what he thinks is a woman, from the pool he maintains.

When he discovers that she is actually a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the journey back to her home, he works with his tenants to protect his new friend from the creatures that are determined to keep her in his world.

The tale features illustrations by Crash McCreery, who has worked as a character designer and artist on such films as Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean and Shyamalan's film, The Village.

The film version of the story stars Paul Giamatti as the superintendent and Bryce Dallas Howard as the Lady in the Water.
