 Singers Name  :

Kavita Krishnamurthy

Kavita Krishnamurthy was born in Delhi. One of the most sought after playback singers today, Kavita initially had her heart set on being an Indian Foreign Services officer. However, coming from a music loving family, she studied Indian Classical music as well as Rabindrasangeet. Rabindrasangeet, thanks to her Bengali aunt, who was the driving force behind her taking to singing. This same aunt brought her to Bombay where she enrolled in St. Xavier's College. She did a lot of singing in college and then later, for jingles. She has also performed with Hemant Kumar and Manna Dey, the latter whom she credits with being one of her biggest sources of inspiration. Her first stint in playback singing came in the late seventies when Laxmikant and Pyarelal had her stand in for Lata Mangeshkar. In those days, songs were shot with a live orchestra and singer. So, while Lata sang the final song, Kavita endured the shoots. The first time her own voice was used was on the film " Maang Bharo Sajna". In 1983, she had her first hit with 'Pyar Jhukta Nahin'. A stream of hits followed after this, Mr. India's "Hawa-Hawaii", Yaraana's " Mera Piya Ghar Aaya", the beautiful music of "1942- A Love Story", etc.
