Correct me if I'm wrong (and I may be)...but aren't fees based on star power/box office appeal? I just think that both DP and SK bring the same in terms of those two and that's why, when I see that the former gets paid more than the latter, it sort of comes of as being silly (for a lack of a better word) to me...

I think whats working in DP's favor is she is doing more movies... More movies equals more visibility... More visibilty leads to more endorsements... more ads... All this increases the star power...

Also more movies increases the chances of having more hits/average grossers in your kitty... It also helps in getting more versatality in roles...

So what happens is when a producer/director has a choice between DP and Sonam he would pick DP bcoz he may feel that she has a better success ratio... When the demand increases, the actress automatically hikes her price more than the other one...

I can also say that Sonam is more (if not, then equally) popular, since she constantly features on many magazine covers, walks fashions shows, and was invited to walk the red carpet on Cannes and last time I checked, also had her name published in some international magazine article based on that appearance. So now will YOU believe that Sonam is more popular? No.

Same way, I don't need to believe that Deepika is more popular, especially with all the info. that you have provided me with. I don't follow each and every person's praise/comment on Sonam or all the polls she wins.

LOLL, and you talk as if Deepika gets movies solely based on her dancing skills? Really now? And how can you say that Sonam hasn't done an action movie, when she clearly hasn't yet? Atleast let Players releaser first and then make a statement about that. 😆

Anyway, my point is what they bring to the table in terms of their films/acting...which is more or less, the same thing. Hence, I see no reason why Deepika gets paid more. If she was to deliver hits based on her star power alone, then I'd understand. That's all.

i dunno...to me deepika "seems" more popular...i dunt know how true tht is in the actual sense...but to me, deepika does seem to have a bigger fanbase than sonam does in the real world.

just the little things i observed: Like in news channels whenever they make a coverage of the "top heroines of bolly", they always include deepika along with kat, pc, ash and kareena...but they dunt include sonam...her name is never taken in the same breath as the other 4 actresses in terms of popularity.

And fact remains tht deepz has more hits and has done more films than sonam...shes done films with a massy appeal so she has a better connect with the common man...but none of sonam's films apart from thank you had any mass appeal, so the common man couldnt care less abt her...and thts a major chunk of our country tht is NOT part of sonam's fanbase.

just my 2 cents...

Both KK and PC have been here for several years now and they HAVE established their foothold in the industry successfully and, if it counts for anything, then they both can act. To some certain extent (as little as it may be)...KK and PC can pull in a crowd.

Don't take these figures too literally...no one knows what exactly the stars get..It depends from film to film..

Here is another list(hindustan Times)

Bollywood's Battle of the sexes means big bucks
Salman Khan: Rs 20 crore
Aamir Khan: Rs 10 – 12 crore plus profit share
Shah Rukh Khan: Rs 10 – 12 crore plus profit share

Kareena Kapoor: Rs 2-3 crore

I agree smariepants with you. In the real world like people I work with and people I talk with, they are fans of deepika so I see fans of deepika in real life. Even when I go to watch movies in theatre. But in the online world is different case all together, no deepika fans just sonam fans

I remember even Saif saying it's only four top heroins kat, bebo, pc and dp.

and people here talking about deepika doing more movies is making her famous. Actually I remember when sonam and deepika were debuting, the was more hype and more awards surrounded dp

In terms of fanbase, I think they're pretty much the same.

As to why DP is covered more often in news channel...the Katrina-Ranbir angle, anyone? 😆Seriously now, since the past two years whenever I've heard about DP, somewhere Katrina's and Ranbir's name was dragged in as well. 99.9% of the times when she opened her mouth in 2009-2010, it was about her relationship with RK and KK's alleged involvement. I'm sure whenever DP was mentioned, it was not due to her so-called BO power or anything like that (let's say, acting).

Anyway, I'm still going to say what I said before - if, and that's a big if, Deepika was getting paid a few crores more due to her own BO appeal, then I'd understand. But it doesn't seem like that. Is there any movie that got the opening/BO tag it did due to Deepika, and only Deepika herself?

Comparing Deepika and Sonam in the larger scheme of things in Bollywood is like comparing the GDPs of Honduras and Guatemala to find out which one is higher. Deepika might have one or two more successful films than Sonam but if you compare the hit-to-flop ratio then Sonam probably has an an edge. Deepika has something like 7-8 flops in a row. Desi Boys will be an Average at best.
