In a study conducted by Pinkvilla.com, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif emerged as the most searched Bollywood celebs on the internet for the year 2011[January-June]. The report was created using Google trends and Google Insights.
This is an indication of the popularity of these stars. One must also note that the search volume of a particular star increases when his/her movie is set for release.
There were quite a few surprises in the report.
- Katrina Kaif who overtook Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the top searched Bollywood celebrity on the internet in the beginning of 2009 continued her dream run in 2011
- Aamir Khan may have a huge box office pull, but he ranked quite low in the top searched celebrity ranking.
- Yesteryear actresses like Madhuri Dixit and Kajol are still quite popular on the internet.
