2011 Copa America will be held in Argentina from July 1 to July 24.

The defending Champion is Brazil.

Japan and Mexico were invited to join the ten CONMEBOL nations in the tournament. Later, Japan withdrew from the competition and Costa Rica was invited as a replacement.

Here's a run down of all the teams participating in Copa America 2011 :

Argentina (hosts), Bolivia, Brazil (holders), Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica (invitee), Ecuador, Mexico (invite), Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela

Media Coverage Special - YouTube will be streaming the tournament to over 50 countries worldwide.

Finally, the mascot for the tournament .. Suri! Suri is a rhea -- a flightless bird (called a "suri" in the Quechua language spoken in Peru and Bolivia) similar to an ostrich.

No, he's not Peter Crouch's long-lost twin brother!

So, who are you backing to win the tournament? Argentina? Or Brazil? How about Chile for a change?

Argentina 1 - 1 Bolivia

Goals: Rojas Edivaldo - Bolivia (47') // Sergio Aguero - Argentina (75')

MOTM (official website - voted by visitors): Lionel Messi (Argentina)

Messi was at the heart of every attack during the first half and created a number of chances, but often fell deep to add numbers in midfield. Bolivia, on the other hand, struggled to test the Argentine goalkeeper. After the break, Batista made a tactical change by bringing on Di Maria for Cambiasso. Bolivia started the second half strongly and some confusion between the keeper and Banega resulted in the first goal of the game. It was unfortunate as the ball just managed to slip pass the goal line before being stopped by Romero. Bolivia tried to test the keeper further, but he did well to keep his side in the game. The introduction of Aguero livened up the game. Di Maria's cross was chested by Burdisso towards Aguero, who volleyed the ball home. Argentina tried to win the game, but Bolivia did enough to keep the scoreline level.

Colombia 1 - 0 Costa Rica

Goals: Adrian Ramos - Colombia (45')

Red card: Randall Brenes - Costa Rica (28')

Yeah, it's so BORING. I thought ARG and BRA would put 3-4 goals against the other teams, but it seems all the teams are more or less equal football-wise (not quality - ARG and BRA are far superior!).

WTH is it with Batista playing Tevez out wide? It doesn't work.

Btw, nice and painful signature! 😆

It's so disappointing to see ARG play like the way they do now. I was happy with their performance before they started their Copa adventure, but now it all looks disjointed with the introduction of Tevez. However, this is not to say Tevez is bad player, but to point out that he's not a wide player and 4-3-3 formation (with Messi's role) requires wide players to stretch their opponents' defence, hence providing space for Messi to exploit. TBH, I don't understand why Batista's not changing his formation (/ positions) to accommodate Tevez because he did it against Spain with Tevez and Higuain rotating the central / and left wing. Again, this raises questions about Batista's tactical understanding and as to why he decided to include Tevez all of a sudden (when previously he admitted that Tevez wasn't a priority)? To sum it all up, I think Grondona asked (more like DEMANDED!) Batista to start Tevez and drop Di Maria (one of Batista's favourites).

.. I hope Batista drops Tevez or change his position to yield better results. Defence SUCKS big time though!

Argentina won 3-0 against Costa Rica. Finally! They missed a lot of chances in this match but at least they won.
