chapter 31:
geet knew something was wrong with maan but she dint goto think abt it too much. adi came into her cabin and told her to follow him to staff working area. she just nodded and followed him silently. when they reached, she observed that every pair of eyes were on her. she was as cool as ice but she dint understand why they were all looking at her so intently. sasha and tasha were smirking. "as usual" she thought. the others had a smile on their face. she was confused. then maan came out of his cabin. geet turned to look at him, their eyes met and geet felt uncomfortable and looked away. it was as if she was the only one who could read his eyes. maan straightened himself and stood to face everyone and started speaking.
maan: good morning everyone(controlling his anger). well today we have a new member to our KC...
he looked at geet and gestured her to come and stand next to him. she obliged without a word, went and stood next to him.
maan: this is GEET HANDA, our new junior architect. she'll be working with us from now onwards. treat her well...
was all he said and he turned to leave, then he turned back with a commanding tone in his voice...
maan: dont even try to go against what i said just now...(he turned to geet) you are going to work under me.
geet winced at his sudden change of behaviour. he was aggressive this time and she was surprised. she just nodded him in silence with wide eyes. maan just turned towards his cabin and yelled at everyone.
maan: introduction khatham hua, everyone back to work.
he roared like a LION. everyone of the staff moved out of sight and to their cubicles, without a word. adi too went to his cabin. geet was flabbergasted and she was staring at maan with shock evident in her eyes. maan looked at her for a moment and barked at her in a low voice.
maan: tumhe special invitation dun ya...
before he could complete, geet ran to her cabin with tears in her eyes. maan felt nothing. it was his usual self at office. he just barged into his office and sat on his seat. he closed his eyes trying to control his outburst. it was very much unlike him to be so rude with geet.when he was done, he picked up the phone and called geet. geet was scared as hell. "what was he?" she thought. she had never thought that maan was so harsh. she couldnt believe what she had just witnesssed. she was breathing deeply trying not to hyperventilate. maan on the other hand was angry only beacause he had not yet got a chance to read the letter and the staff were disturbing him again and again. after realising what he had just done, he called geet to his cabin, geet knocked and stepped in.
geet: yes sir???
maan: ur fisrt assignment is that i want you to list down all the clients we are currently working with, find out the details and then feed it to the database asap. you can leave now.
geet nodded and left the cabin. geet was working hard on her task. she was shocked to know that KC was handling more than 50 projects presently. " how in the world is this possible? what is maan made up of???" she thought. she couldnt believe that he single handedly was managing the whole company. she was gaping at the screen like a small kid who just saw that her room was filled with loads of goodies. she finally started working, first she listed down the client names in alphabetical order. then she called manisha and romeo to get the client files for her. they both came with the files, kept it on her desk and left wishing her good luck. she started scaning each file thorougly and entered the data to the computer, double checking it. it was indeed a tough job. not her piece of cake at all. she struggled thru the messed up handwritings of various ppl of the office. her eyes were paining like hell trying to decipher the files around her from past 2 hrs. she finished the file at hand and heaved a sigh. she laid back on her chair and closed eyes to relax for a while.
meanwhile adi had informed maan that he had a video conference with the clients from new york. maan came back happy that the deal was finalised. maan came into his cabin and adi followed behind him speaking,...
adi: yeh tho kamaal ho gaya sir, itna bada project mil gayi hamein woh bhi 2 din main...
maan: haan adi, our hard work is paying off...
adi: absolutely sir...
maan: adi mujhe coffee chahiye, geet ko kehdo,...
adi: teek hai sir, main ab chaltha hun...
adi left his cabin and walked towards geet's cabin. he came in to see that she was resting. he called out to her slowly.
adi: geet?
she opened her dove like eyes slowly. her expressions changed from happiness to shock and then surprise as she saw adi standing infront of her. she got up nervous...
geet: adi sir, aap??? kuch kaam tha???
adi chuckled at her and said,
adi: geet calm down. i know that its ur first day so chill k...well maan sir ko coffee chahiye, jaldi se leke jao
geet just nodded. adi left, she turned to look at maan, who was busy doing something on his laptop. maan felt somebody staring at him and he looked up to see geet staring at him. he asked "what?" thru his expression. she just nodded for a no and rushed out to the pantry to get his coffee. maan seemed to be enjoying geet's plight of horror. he continued his work. after 5mins, geet came to him with the coffee. she placed it on the table and left without looking up at him. maan chuckled at her actions. he looked at the coffee and sipped it. "perfect" he thought. and then suddenly he remembered abt the letter and got up to get it from his locker. he came back to his seat with it and started opening it. his heart beat had increased and he was breathing unusually fast. he took the letter out and straightened it. when he read it, he got the shock of his life.
DEAR MAAN,
I HAVE ONLY TWO THINGS TO TELL YOU THIS TIME...
"YOU KNOW ME!!!"
"YOU DONT KNOW ME!!!"

he stared at the letter in his hand unable to believe his eyes. he actually rubbed his eyes to make sure he read correclty. "what the hell is happening?" he thought. he dint understand how it was possible that HE KNEW HER and he still dint have a clue as to who she was??? he wasn't understanding a thing. he felt like he was inside some puzzle unable to find a way out of it. he tried to analyse the meetings they had...wait a minute, we never met each other until this very moment, he thought. maan was not trying to take in all the info.for his dismay, he had completely forgot that GEET was the one who had given the first letter. he just knew that evry letter he got, every place he went had something to do with what he read in the letter. but what??? maan was missing the most important point but he hadnt yet realised it. for time being he had accepted his defeat to her and had ceased to use his shrewd brain so it was obvious he couldnt figure out a thing. he banged his hand on the table irritated. he closed his eyes to compose himself and think better. he never realised that he hurt his HAND severely in haste, IT HAD STARTED BLEEDING.
geet was watching him keenly and was enjoying the show. she knew that he was missing the main point here and she liked it. "ab tho aur bhi mazaa ayega maan" she muttered. but on the other hand she was disappointed that he couldnt guess anything. she had to be patient and wait for the right time to reveal herself. she wondered how maan would react then??? she smiled and let the thought fly. when maan hit his hand, she flinched unable to fathom his pain. invariably, she ran out of her cabin, took some ice and first aid box from the pantry and entered maan's cabin. man who was lost in his own thoughts was surprised to see her. geet came to him and placed the ice bag on his hand, cleaned the wound and wrapped it neat. maan just watched her dumbfound. he had nothing to say, he was just wondering why she was so concerned abt him???
geet: zyada dard tho nahin ho raha aapko???
her voice was shivering. it was evident that she was very much concerned abt his pain and she was cursing herself for hurting him. maan just watched her in disbelief. geet looked at him, his eyes were asking her numerous qns which she couldnt answer. she just left his cabin and returned to her workplace and dug herself into the files. not even for once she dared to look towards maan's cabin.
maan just watched her thru the glass wall. he realised that she had witnessed his idiotic actions and came to the conclusion that she was just helping him out. he turned back and sat in his chair. he closed the letter and kept inside the locker. he dint think of opening the parcel since he had had enough for a day. he decided against his will to open it tomorrow. unable to concentrate on his work, he sat on his chair shutting his eyes. geet slowly peeked from her file and sighed in relief seeing maan resting. she turned back to her files. she had loads to complete and she had to do it today.
it was 6pm, when the staff started leaving one by one. maan was busy with his work and when it came to work he just forgot everything. geet too was working. sasha and tasha looked at her and amirked at her. geet just ignored them both. pinky came in and told her leave since it was 6 already. geet said she will in a while and insisted that pinky leave. pinky bid her a goodbye and left. it was 7.15pm when everyone had left except maan, geet and adi. adi came into maan's cabin to inform that he was leaving. maan just nodded and continued with his work. adi now strode towards geet's cabin,
adi: geet??? tum abhi tak yahan kya kar rahi ho??/
geet: woh adi sir, sirf 5min ka kaam baakhi hai, khatham karke phir nikalthi hun
adi: geet, yeh zaroori nahin ki tum saara kaam ek hi din main khatham kardo. ek din ke liye kaafi hai, ab chalo.
geet: nahin adi sir, sirf paanch minute, phir main chali jaungi, waise bhi maan sir bhi office main haina...
adi: maan sir ka tho poocho math...bas tum jaldi se kaam khatham karo and leave.
geet: hmm ok...
adi: bye geet, good night
geet: bya adi sir!!!
adi left. geet looked at her watch and then towards maan and towards her file. maan finished his work by 8pm and got up to leave when he saw that geet was still working. " yeh abhi tak yahan kya kar rahi hai?" he thought!!! he walked to her cabin, geet looked up. anger was evident on his face.
maan: what are you doing till now???
geet: woh main kaam...
maan(cut her short and angrily): leave...NOW!!!!!
geet just got up, closed her file, switched off her computer and ran out of her cabin towards the exit. maan who was angry chuckled at her response to his roar. he just smiled and left towards the parking lot!!!!
