Rashmi Sharma's Sunrise Productions is all ready to air Sasural Simar Ka on Colors. Dipika Samson, Himani Shivpuri, Pankaj Dheer and Jaya Ojha will be part of it. Dipika plays the protagonist while Himani Shivpuri plays her aunt and Pankaj Dheer and Jaya Ojha play her parents.
A source says, "Sasural Simar Ka is about a girl who dreams of becoming a dancer but her father does not want her to. Hence, with the help of her Bua, she tries and finds out ways of moving out of her house to fulfill her dream. The production house has just shot for the promo and the shooting is yet to begin. But the show is most likely to go on-air post IPL as the channel does not want to have any shows till the cricket fever ends."
As reported earlier, Sharma is coming up with yet another show on Zee which is titled Mr and Mrs Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein. The show was to go on-air by end of February but it hasn't got a time slot from the channel yet.
Sharma confirmed about her show on Colors but she refused to divulge any information about the show as she said, "The show is still in its initial stage hence, it's too early to talk about it."
The promos of the serial starring Himani Shivpuri, Pankaj Dheer and Jaya Ojha are already on air. While the title-role of Simar is being essayed by Dipika Samson who was last seen in Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Avika will play her younger sister Roli. Pitched as a light-hearted, slice-of-life show, Sasural .. will see Avika as a TV buff.
"After Anandi (the child-bride in Balika Vadhu) audience will see me as the munh-phat, chirpy Roli." Avika has shed a lot of weight and is sporting a stylish look for the serial to be aired in April. Incidentally, it is being produced by Rashmi Sharma who is behind Star Plus' numero uno show Saathiya Saath Nibhaana.
The trend, it sure seeme to be changing. For times immemorial girls on TV had (film) stars in their eyes with most taking the small screen to just be a step-up to the big one. But not so anymore.
"There are plenty of filmstars on TV, so what's the big deal," shrugs Dipika Samson, who will soon be seen in the new show on Colours channel, " Sasural Simar ka". The petite beauty adds that even though her year-old stint on TV in serials like "Devi" and " Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo" has yet to fetch her a film offer, she's not exactly desperate for one. "Then again, TV actors are already famous," she reasons.
Dipika Samson was an airhostess working for a private airlines, till she quit her job due to health issues. She made her debut in Imagine's Devi after which she did Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo on Zee. Sasural Simar Ka on Colors is her second show as a lead and she has been in the industry for just one year!
In a chat with TellyChakkar she talks about her happy-sad journey.
Do you relate to your character of Simar?
Yes, I do because she is fond of dancing and so am I. If given a chance to choose between her family and career, Simar will opt for her family. I personally feel girls should be independent. But if there is a point in my life where I have to choose between my career and family I too will go for my family. So, yes I can connect with Simar.
Your character is a lot like that of Simran from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge so have you been asked to model your character on her?
Initially I was briefed my character would be a lot like Simran, that Simar would be close to her but I wasn't asked to be Simran. I will be Simar.
In your earlier shows, you have cried a lot. Will you be weeping buckets here too?
At present, I am enjoying this role because my maayka is a lot of fun. I don't know if I will cry in my sasural.
You were to take up the UTV show on Star Plus?
Yes, I was going to do UTV's Dor but there were date issues as I was doing Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo then.
Avika Gor is playing your little sister on screen how is the chemistry between the two of you?
It's great on screen and off screen. I feel like I have got a real sister and brother through this show.
Don't you feel it's a little unfair that in spite of you being the lead its Avika who is getting more footage?
I do not know. Maybe that what the script demands and even in Simar's life, Rolly is very important. It's because of her that Simar's life is so happening. Avika is very talented despite her age and I have no insecurity.
Do you have sisters in real life?
I have two elder sisters so I am the pampered one. In fact, having sisters in real life has helped me connect with my characters. Even while we shoot there are scenes where I know how being an older sister I should react because that's how my sisters would do it.
Avika looks a lot taller than you in the show?
Rolly is ahead of me in every aspect of life so here too she moved a little ahead (laughs).
Are you comfortable with Hindi?
I am a Catholic but we do speak in Hindi and English at home so I am very comfortable with the language. I have also studied in CBSE board as my dad was in the army and we travelled a lot till we actually settled in Pune.
What is the USP of this show?
The beauty of the show is that it's very light hearted. It's a show that everyone will be able to connect with. There are moments in this show that are part of everyone's life, something that happens in every home.
What do you have to say about your progress as an actor?
God has been every kind to me and in the past one year in the industry I have got three shows. My first show Devi did not do well but people did notice me and I got new shows. So I think I have been very lucky.
What were you doing before you got into acting?
I was working as an airhostess for three years but my health did not allow me to fly for a very long time. So that's when I decided to resign. My family motivated me to try this industry and I did because during my school days I was very much into extra-curricular activities. Luckily, it worked very well.
How was your experience as an airhostess?
I was flying with Jet. It was a good experience a lot of fun there. When you're flying you meet different kinds of people and one learns to handle them. Even if you're in stress you have to work to decrease their stress level. So it was an amazing learning experience.
So didn't you fall for any handsome pilot?
I wasn't into much of that.
So are you seeing someone?
Will tell you about it later (laughs) but getting into TV was a drastic change from smile to tears or should I say tears to smiles.
Are you looking up to Bollywood next?
At present, I am committed here and haven't thought about films yet.
What kind of role would you want to play in future?
Given a choice I would like to do any role of Madhuri Dixit's. I am a big Madhuri fan and wouldn't think twice to take up any role she has done before. Apart from this if there is anything new anything different I'd love to do it.
Dipika Samson gushes over SRK
What was your reaction when you heard you would be shooting with Shah Rukh Khan? I can't explain what I felt when I heard that Shah Rukh Khan would be appearing on my show. It was an indescribable feeling. I was speechless for a while and when I found my voice, I screamed with glee. I am a huge huge fan of Shah Rukh and have seen all his films since my childhood.

Dipika Samson married? Dipika Samson plays a prospective bride in Colors' new show Sasural Simar Ka, but as she is married in real life, the actress has been asked to remain mum on her three-year-old marriage to Raunak Mehta. Apparently, the channel is worried that if her real life martial status is out, it might affect her on-screen image of a prospective bahu. They feel she should talk about her marriage only when her character is married in the show. |
