Blessed

Geet was living the life - the very happy life – a blessed life. She was sitting on the big fluffy couch, inside the big compound of Khurana Estates, watching 3 Idiots on the big screen, all while snacking on a big bag of salt and viniger chips. She couldnt help but smile as she thought back to the past few months of her life - it had chanced so much. She had gone from being an unwed expectant mother fighting for her baby's life, to being a married woman cherishing and enjoying eveyrthing about her pregnancy. She went from being Geet Handa to Mrs. Geet Maan Singh Khurana. Wow - what a trip it had been.

She couldnt help but smile as she thought back to the day 4 months ago when she had become the wife of the man she loved. It had happened just after Naintara had nearly dropped Geet from the balcony at Pindi Queens's party. Geet had been horrified that is Naintara had let go, she'd loose everything that mattered to her. But, as usual, her knight in shining armor came to her rescue and saved her in the nick of time. When he hugger her she felt safe and was finally able to breathe again.

When Geet had confronted Naintara about her attempt to harm her baby, Maan had been beside himself with shock. Then when Ninatara had tried to spin the story and make it seem like Geet was making it all up, she tried to make it seem like Geet was a characterless woman pregnant out of wed lock – Maan could take no more. With no warning he cut his hand on glass and smeared his blood in her maang claiming her as his forever. Geet had stood shocked and able to completely believe what had happened. He had announced to Naintara that now and forever, Geet was Mrs. Maan Sings Khurana so she should think twice before attacking Geet aagin. Maan had simply grabbed her hand and taken her back to his home. It was there that he explained that he wouldnt tolerate anyone disrespecting her or pointing fingers at her baby. He had told her that in his heart he had accepted her as his soulmate, they were going to be married anyway, so why not right now?

Geet had cried tears of happiness as she threw herself at him and held on like her life depended on it. Less than one week later they were married with full celebration - pheres, band baja, mangalsutra, sindoor and all! From that day, her life had been blissful...simply blissful. No matter what she did, she couldnt get enouhg of her husband. Their first few months of marriage were like a dream come true. He took such good care of her, he'd catered to her every whim and craving. He'd put up with her tantrums, her hormones - all of it. But that is now that melted her heart and made her want to cry tears of joy. It was his love, affection and care for her unborn child that bowled her over. He made sure that he was there at every appointment, he asked all sorts of questions about the pregnancy and baby, he made sure her baby was safe and protected. He was being the father to her baby - something she never thought her baby would have.

Geet was brought back from her day dream thanks to Pinky's voice. Since Geet was alone in the palatial house, Maan had insisted on having Pinky move in so that someone would be with Geet during the times when he wasnt.

"Geet," Pinky called, "Jiju aagaya!"

Geet cringed as the words hit her ears. Oh how times had changed. Only a month ago Geet was completely enamored with her sweet, loving and adorable husband. But now - now she couldnt get away from him fast enough.

"Haye Rabba," Geet said outloud as she looked at the clock. "Abhi toh sirf che baje hai, yeh ghaar kyun aagaye?"

Geet quickly turned off the TV and tried to get to her feet, which was easier said than done considering she was about as huge as a whale at this point. Luck for her Pinky came rushing into the living room with a bowl of popcorn.

"Pinky, jaldi...haath deh," Geet said as she had one hadn out stretched.

Pinky came quickly and helped Geet to her feet.

"Aagar woh tujhse pooche ke main kahaan hoon...toh unhe bata dena ke main bohot thaki hui thi issi liyeh soh gayi."

"Geet, tujhse sharam nahin aati Jiju se jhoot bolte hue?" Pinky asked as she guided Geet to the stairs.

"Nahin, bilkul nahin," Geet said as she started to climb. "Dhiyan rahe ke woh mere peeche peeche naa aayeh."

Just as Geet said that, she heard the main door open and saw her handsome husband enter the house.

"Geet," he called.

"Pinky, jaa! Unne aane maath dena!" Geet said.

Geet took the stairs as quickly as she could, which was not quickly at all. She could hear Pinky behind her talking to Maan.

Geet was almost to her room when she heard Pinky yell.

"Jiju, Geet abhi abhi sohi hai, usse bother maat kijiyeh!"

Geet knew that she only had a few seconds to get into bed and make it seem like she was sleeping. This past month had been more annoying than anything else. Geet was on the verge of pulling her hair out, she just couldnt take it any more. Why couldnt he just leave her alone!? Why!?

Geet walked as fast her her feet would carry her, which was not fast considering she was at the end of her 7th month of pregnancy. Still, she was ahead of Maan. She entered what was now their bed room, she closed the door, got into bed and pretended to be asleep. Her back was to the door so that Maan couldn't see her face.

She'd been in bed for maybe 10-15 seconds before she heard him approach their room from the hall – less than a few seconds after that, she heard the door open and then close.

"Geet…" he called softly.

She steadied her breathing to make it seem like she was sleeping.

"Geet…soh gayi ho kya?" he asked.

Geet said nothing. She heard him approach her side of the bed.

"Hi Baby…" he began.

It took all of Geet's strength to not groan out loud.

She flet him come and kiss her on top of her forehead before stepping away – probably to take off his coat and tie.

"Aaj mera baacha kaisa hai?" Maan asked.

Geet felt his warm hand on her swollen belly. Even with her eyes closed she knew he was kneeling on the floor next to her.

"Mamma ne aapka tik se khayal rakha ke nahin?" Maan asked. "Pata hai, aaj koi kaam nahin hua office pe. Kaal aapka aur Mamma ki appointment hai naa doctor ke saath…aap toh jaante hai ke main kitna nervous hojata hoon. Agar aapko kuch hogaya toh main aur aapki Mamma toh jee nahin payenge."

Geet felt Maan gently rub her belly – God it was annoying!

"Haye Babaji," Geet began. "Main yahaan soh rahi hoon aur yeh…yeh office ke kaam leke bait gaye. Kya hoga inka?"

"Geet…" Maan said.

Geet thought she was thinking it to herself, but as usual, she was thinking out loud.

"Geet…tum jaagi hui ho?" Maan asked.

Busted. She'd been caught so there was nothing else to do but own up to it. She opened her eyes to find her gorgeous husband looking down at her.

"Woh...haan…main…sone ki kosish kaar rahi thi," Geet said. "Aaj pata nahin kyun bohot thakan mehsoos ho rahi hai."

"Kya? Doctor ke paas chalo," Maan said as he pulled the covers away from Geet.

"Nahin! Main tik hoon. Thoda aram karlungi toh tik hojaungi," she said.

"Tik hai. Haan…tum soh jao…" Maan said as he covered her up again and fixed her pillows.

Geet breathed a sigh of relief. Ever since her 6th month check up, when Maan found out that babies in the womb could hear things and could remember voices, he'd been acting like a lunatic. Every night – every freaking night – he'd come home and before anything else he'd talk to the baby. He talked to the baby about everything and anything. He discussed the business, education, music, sports, dance. It was like he was an encyclopedia or something. Geet was amazed that the KC was still standing considering that she highly doubted he did any work in the office at all.

Just like any other night, this night was turning out to be the same, but Geet was not in the mood. Her feet were swollen, her back ached, and her soccer player child had kicke dup a storm this particular day. She was in no mood to be harassed by her husband. She wanted some peace and quiet – just some time to herself. Clearly that was not going to happen.

"Haan toh…hum aapne kahani mein kahaan the Baby…" Maan began.

Opening her eyes, Geet saw Maan sitting on his side of the bed with his face mere inches from her belly.

"Yeh aap kya kaar rahe hai?" Geet asked.

"Aapne baache se baath kaar rahi hoon aur kya?" Maan said.

He was acting like it was no big deal, but Geet had had enough.

"Baas kijiyeh," she said.

"Kya?" Maan said, shock etched all over his face.

"Baas kijiyeh, main aur nahin seh sakti," Geet said. "Yeh kya haar roz aap mere pet se baatein karte hai…"

"Main toh baas…" Maan began.

By this time Geet was sitting up with her back proped up against the head rest.

"Main toh baas kya?" Geet started. "Khabi khabi main samaj sakti hoon magar haar roz…haar roz. Uff! Maha annoying! Aapke aane ke baad mein tik se soh nahin sakti, utt nahin sakti, bait nahin sakti! Pareshan karke rakh diya mujhe!"

Geet looked at her dumbfounded husband. He was looking at her like he'd never seen her before. Then, his face softened with an unsetteling frown. He straightned up and pulled the covers close to her body.

"Geet…mera irada khabi tumhe pareshan karne ka nahin tha," he said. "Main toh baas aape bache se kuch baatein karna chata tha. Tum toh humare baache ke saath humesha ho, woh toh aapne Maa ko pechanlega. Main toh itna chatatha ke woh mera bhi awaaz pehchane."

He got offo the the bed and walked to the closet. He took out some track pants and his signature black undershirt. He was in the bathroom for maybe 10minutes before he came back out.

He looked at her as he said, "Tum aaram karo…main library mein jaa raha hoon. Kuch bhi chahiyeh ho toh mujhe bulalena."

Maan came close to her and placed a kiss on the top of her head. He turned to leave but stopped at the edge fo the bed.

"Mera yakeen mano Geet, main tumhe pareshan nahin karna chata tha. Main toh tumhe haar pareshani se door rakhna chata hoon. Aur aagar main tumhari pareshani hoon toh main aapne aapko tumse door rakhunga."

With that he headed to the door.

Well that was just dandy wasn't it!? Geet felt tears sting her eyes as they threatned to spill. Leave it to Maan Singsh Khurana to infuriate her and pacify her in a matter of minutes. Seeing him walk away, with his shoulders slumped and that heartbreaking look on his face, it killed Geet. Just killed her. These pregnancy hormones were going to be the death of her!

He only wanted to talk to their baby so that their child would know his voice as well. What was wrong in that? The man had given his 500% in caring for her and her child. Never once did he make it seem like he was not the biological father of her child – never. He always put her and her baby first, even before his family. How could she forget that he went against his brother and Dadi for her. How could she forget that he'd fought endangering his life to save hers. How could she?

Now she felt like a complete jerk.

"Rukiyeh," she called.

Instantly Maan stopped in his tracks.

Geet sighed and then said, "I'm sorry."

He turned back to look at her, wearing a confused look on his face.

"Aaiyeh…baath karlijiyeh aapne bache se," Geet said.

"Nahin Geet, tum aram karo. Main tumhe pareshan nahin karunga," he said.

Geet gave him a soft smile. "Aap mujhe khabi pareshan nahin karsakte. When she saw him hesitate, she said, "Aaiyeh…"

Maan looked at her. "Tum sure ho?" he asked.

"Haan baba…isse pehle ke main aapna faisla badal loon…baath karlijiyeh aapne bacha se," Geet said with a laugh.

Geet was rewarded with the most wondeful smile from Maan. He looked like he was a kid who was just given limited access to a candy store. He nearly ran and jumped onto the bed. Geet had pulled the covers down to her waste and put her hands on the side of her body.

Maan stretched out next to Geet and gently stroked her belly with his right hand.

"Hi Baby, Papa here," he began.

Geet smiled as the baby kicked where Maan's hand was.

"Ok toh…hum kahaan the aapne story mein…" Maan said as he thought back. "Oh haan…toh…tumhari Mamma itni pagal thi ke woh mere ghaar mein, mere Dadi ke kehne paar, meri secretray banke aayi thi…lekin usse pata nahin tha ke Dadi ka pota main…MSK hoon…"

And so the story continued. Geet couldn't help but smile. For the past few days Maan had decided to tell the baby all about how Maan and Geet had met, how'd they'd fallen in love and how'd the come together. Last night he'd just finished telling the baby about how he'd been so upset with Geet for arranging a Desi themed party, how he'd yelled at her and she'd end up quitting. Of course, Geet loved the fact that he admitted the only reason he had acted the way he had was because even back then he knew Geet was special, he knew that Geet was making a place for herself in his heart and in his life – a thought that terrified him.

So tonight the story continued.

Geet looked at Maan as he talked to the baby as if he was narrating the story with full dramatic effects. Geet watched as his eyes lit up with joy. She couldn't resist the urge to stroke his head – so she did. She sat there stroking his head lovingly as he talked to their baby.

Geet didn't know when she'd fallen asleep, but she was awakened when she felt Maan rub her belly again.

"Lagta hai aapki Mamma bohot thak gayi hai, usse sone dete hai," Maan said. "Good night my Baby."

He then leaned in and placed a kiss on her swollen belly. The sweet gesture brought tears to Geet's eyes.

Maan sat up to face her. He smiled at her lovingly before wiping away her earrant tears with his gentle fingers. He then leaned in and places a soft, sweet kiss on her lips before helping her lie down. He made sure she was comfrotable, he pulled up the covers and then turned out the lights.

She felt the bed sag as he got in next to her. She feld his arms go around her bulging waist and rest securely, protectively on her stomach where their baby lay.

He kissed her neck as he said, "Good night Geet. I love you."

"I love you," Geet whispered.

She lay in bed thinking about how her life had changed. Everything good in her life was because of the man lying next to her – Maan Singh Khurana. While he may get on her last nerve at times, she cant imagine a life without him. He was her world and she'd die without him. It was these small tiffs, these small fights, these small moments of upheaval that made life interesting and worth living.

She placed her left hand on top of his hand that rested on her belly, with her right hand she clutched her mangalsutra.

Life had been harsh to her, but then life had been good. God had been good. She thanked God once again for sending Maan Singh Khurana into her life.

Blessed – yes, she was truly blessed.

Poor Maan did not understand how his caring nature could be annoying, and who better than us girls can understand Geet. Very well written, and a very realistic one.
Keep up the good work sweets😉
