For a user generated news site. Write on current affairs in various categories. Look at any Indian news sites categories and which category are you most comfortable to write in?
Since it is an open topic assignment, past writing experience in news, magazines like editors etc. counts. Your English must be like news site editors, and we will rather not have one on board than having those got problem with not only grammars, punctuations, structuring contents, but overall problem in expressing a thought.
If you have a news, magazines writing portfolio that could be a start. For good writers we may allow to publish their name as author in article. Also, detail your educational background and AGE.
Technical ability -
You must have STRONG experience in using DRUPAL.

No scrapping. Articles must pass CopyScape and others.
