Last ten years A decade of Hell

I am just listing the few major events that happen during last few, please feel free to add what you think were the significant events that occur during the past 10 years (i.e. 2000-2009)

The decade began with a sigh of relief when the feared computer Y2K bug failed to materialize as companies adjusted their systems in time.

The tensions grew quickly in the 2000s: There was the crash of the Concorde, the beginning of the second Intifada, the attack on the USS Cole, and a hotly disputed presidential election that wasn't officially decided until the Supreme Court halted the recount of ballots in Florida

The rest of the decade bore witness to:

• Violence. The Sep 11, 2001, attacks were the worst of a series of terrorist attacks, followed several years later by a train bombing in Spain and a subway blast in London. After 9/11, the US led wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Russia and Georgia tangled in later year, each side blaming the other for the conflict.

The attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on 11 September 2001, apart from killing nearly 3,000 people and directly affecting many more, led to a chain of events that altered the lives of hundreds of thousands in Afghanistan, Iraq Pakistan, England, India, and throughout the world.

• Natural disasters. Nearly 230,000 people spread over several South Asia countries died in a tsunami spawned by an Indian Ocean earthquake. Tens of thousands were killed by earthquakes in Pakistan and China. Hurricane Katrina tore through New Orleans.

far more people - about 230,000 - died in the Indian Ocean tsunami on 26 December 2004 than perished on 9/11. Do the West disregard that catastrophe, and Cyclone Nargis in Burma, and the Bam earthquake in Iran, because they didn't happen in New York?

• Economic malaise. The collapse of the dot-com and housing bubbles fostered two financial crises: The second one resulted in the worst economic climate since the Great Depression.

The collapse of Lehman Brothers on 15 September 2008 showed just how serious the financial crisis was.

What might happen during the next few years

In the last 10 years, we've seen many defining moments, including the Sept. 11 attacks, Tsunami, The Earth Quake in Kashmir, Hurricane Katrina, and an economic disaster.

However, what also defines this decade is the fact that our generation, the Millennial Generation, truly came of age during this time – and these events and many others have helped define who we are, for better or worse (although we hope the former).

I personally do not believe in Mayan calendar or any other predictions, I am not too worried about the economy as it is going to bounce back (it's a cycle that we go through every now and then), my real concern is the ever changing climate and the increasing hatred among the mankind – is it going to get better or going to get worst and is there a solution(s) to it?

2012 - the world might end..

as you said, the economy bounces back.. its just that we shouldnt depend on the share market for short term goals.. do it long term and no matter how volatile equity is, it always repays in the long run..

Yes, the last 10 years have been terrible, the price of tomatoes and cucumbers have risen significantly, the weather is also funny, sigh. I am praying so that my time machine works, and then i can go back in time.

Okay seriously speaking I prefer to look at the next 10 years. I think it will be glorious except for the issue fo Gobal Warming which I fear could result in lots of death.
(commodity prices will sky rocket then)
Past 10 years has been a nightmare for many countries.

Allah Akbar, your cat survived th last 10 years.😆
Materially many countries progressed. But currently few countries are going bankrupt too.
Iceland is quite gone. Greece having a major financial crisis and even Spain has a 19% unemployment when it used to be so rich and prosperous before.
