Since I tend to like MN
and SG, and generally watch the show as a whole rather than for a specific couple, I don't know where I fit in this fanbase war.
Not sure if my opinion counts for much, but I'll say this - and I honestly have no reason to be partial towards one couple because like I said, I'm not into the whole MN vs SG thing - the creatives have
definitely been biased towards SG.
Consider this objectively with an open mind:
1) Let's start with the "original" songs that they came up with. Gunjan's realization song was sung decently and an outdoor location was used to enhance its picturization. It captured her feelings beautifully and the little SG bits didn't make me want to cringe. MN's date song on the other hand, was nothing short of a disaster. The singers were amateurish, the song was shot inside a studio and the props were ridiculous. The MN parts with the horse and violin literally made me shudder. I couldn't believe how lame it was in comparison to the song they composed for Gunjan!
2) All it took for Mayank to fall in love with Nupur was her wearing his shirt. All it took for Nupur to fall for Mayank was him making her wear his shirt during an uncomfortable moment. They fell in love
instantly without proper build up. Compare that to how SG fell for each other. After the Valentine's Day dance, Gunjan slowly recalled everything Samrat had done for her. She began to see him in a different light because he treated her well in spite of the way she doubted him. He kept dropping hints about how special she was, and after he gave her a bunch of roses it cemented her feelings for him. She was under the misconception that she was more than a friend to him. His little gestures over a period of time made her fall for him rather than a single, random incident. The same goes for Samrat. After Sheena taunted him in jail, he started flashing back to the SG moments. It took him a few more interactions with Gunjan and some advice from friends to finally acknowledge what she meant to him. He didn't fall in love over a single incident. Going by how I perceived the show, SG's love had a decent build up and their love was always there - it's just that
they didn't realize it. With MN, there was barely a proper foundation laid for them and the creatives had to show a particular point where each fell for the other. There was no slow build up whatsoever and their respective realizations were mediocre.
3) The way both have couples have been handled reeks of partiality. Take the song sequences for instance. Almost all of SG's solo scenes during various songs have had classy settings/props - park, candles, piano, dance floor, etc. Notice I said
almost. Even SG have had their fair share of crap, but MN's portions in songs have had some of the weirdest props I've ever come across! Autos, giant violins, horse cut outs, giant flowers, toilet paper like elastic things and what not. I could go into details about the dialogues and other aspects, but that'll make this post too long.
4) Does it not seem strange to anyone that PD contradicts herself a lot of times? When asked to use Khabar Nahi for MN, she said their deal was with YRF and not Sony. She used the same song for SG and said their new contract stated that they use Sony songs instead of YRF ones. So how come they played Khuda Jaane, a YRF song, for SG today? How can that NOT seem fishy?
Before I end this post, I'd like to add one more thing. I'm not implying that SG don't deserve to be treated well. I'm just appalled that MN are treated badly. Why give one couple the royal treatment and treat the other one like an afterthought? I'm also not saying that SG fans shouldn't enjoy what they're getting. You have the right to love your couple just as much as anyone else. You don't even need to feel guilty for that. However, it shouldn't prevent people from acknowledging the obvious bias.
I hope all that made sense. Please don't take this as an attack on SG or their fans. I like the couple and have occasionally had enjoyable interactions with some of their fans. For me, this issue is more about the creatives than the couples. If the creatives were biased towards MN and gave SG the short end of the stick, I would have said the same thing. Like I said before, I'm not into the SG vs MN wars. Frankly speaking they are just characters and shouldn't spark so many heated debates!
