Thenavattu - A Commercial Cocktail
IndiaGlitz

Jeeva was on a penance longing for a commercial hit. His recent films featured him in off-beat roles and the actor's fans were eager to see their favorite hero donning a macho-man challenging baddies and bashing the goons.

'Thenavattu' has come as a blessing in disguise for all Jeeva fans as the actor sings, romances, utters punch dialogues, thrashes the villains and evokes sentiment on screen. All credit to debutant V V Kathir, who seems to be well versed with the art of making a 'Pakka' commercial from his mentor Perarasu, a trendsetter with his commercial smash hits.

Kathir has rendered a movie that is one-dimensional with characters uttering racy dialogues. The actor has attempted to recreate the Vijay magic, with right instructions from the director.

Jeeva has played his part well. He has portrayed it with dignity and oozes energy. He excels in stunt sequences especially towards the climax. He seems to have matured quite well to play a mass hero.

Quite a contrast to his earlier films like 'Kattradhu Thamizh' and' Rameswaram', Jeeva comes in flashy and colorful costumes. He dances with joy and seems to have involved himself ardently in the role.

Poonam Bajwa continues from where she left off in Seval. She has played her role with ease and delivers. She is cool and poised on screen. Ravi kale impresses as baddie. His body language deserves appreciation. Ganja Karuppu's comedy is not hilarious but good to an extent.

The plot starts off when Kottai (Jeeva) comes from Madurai to Chennai to eke out his livelihood. He works as henchman to Kailasam (Ravi Kale), a dreaded gangster. Kailasam's son, a womanizer, is behind Gayathri (Poonam Bajwa). Gayathri, Kottai's ladylove, runs for cover. Eventually, Kottai takes on Kailasam to protect Gayathri. Whether he succeeds in his mission forms the crux of the story.

Srikanth Deva's music adds pep. The racy tunes coupled with peppy beats makes the spectators tap their foot. Director Kathir didn't experiment much and took the familiar path of commercial entertainer following the footsteps of his guru. Sun pictures' has the capacity to foresee a movie's success and continues their saga that started off with 'Kadhalil Vizhundhen'.

'Thenavattu' is sure to make it big among the B and C centre audiences.

Thanks bro...i found this review from behindwoods😊

Starring: Jeeva, Poonam Bajwa

Direction: V V Kathir

Music: Srikanth Deva

Production: Antony

The same old story of revenge, love, family sentiment returns in the name of Thenavattu produced by Sun Pictures. For Jeeva who generally chooses varied and challenging characters, this film will be just one more addition to his kitty and nothing more. Poonam Bajwa the heroine who has nothing to offer.
Jeeva comes to Chennai from Madurai in search of employment. He mistakes his boss Ravi Kale to be a good timber depot industrialist and makes for him sickle, saw and other tools for cutting. However Ravi Kale is a local dada whose job is to kill people.

Jeeva meets Poonam Bajwa in a temple and as can be predicted by a toddler, they fall in love. Meanwhile Ravi Kale's son Sabi who happens to a womanizer eyes Poonam Bajwa who somehow escapes his clutches. Rajan P Dev who is a minister with the ruling party abets the carnages of Kale et al and the desperadoes always go scot-free. There is also an assistant commissioner Sai Kumar whose sister was wronged and killed by the villain clan and he is raging in anger to settle scores with them. The rest of the film deals with how the enemy camp gets decimated by the hero gang and about the revenge saga.

Debutant director V V Kathir who is in charge of story, screen play and direction should have taken extra care especially when this happens to be his first film. When many new directors with innovative ideas enter the fray everyday, Kathir's work does not speak much.
Music by Srikanth Deva does not impress. Cinematography is just ordinary. Stunt scenes by Sumo Arasu do not try anything new.

Thenavattu is for people who just adore illogical masala flicks.

Verdict - Old wine in an older bottle

Thenavattu- Decent opening!

By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 22 November , 2008, 16:21

The critics can eat crow, as Sun Pictures Thenavattu has taken a very good opening on day one of its opening in Tamilnadu.

The film is being appreciated by the mass audience especially in B & C, and has taken 85 percent opening on Friday.

The film released on the day when Tamilnadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi hit out for the first time openly at Kalanithi Maran and his Sun Network in 'Mursoli' the DMK party paper.

However the movie took a flying opening in Madurai, Salem and other areas. Even in Chennai city day, the noon show was full at a huge theatre like Ganapathy Ram in Adyar. The film is purely mass masala, and it proves that there is still an audience for it.

Meanwhile it is another feather on the cap of Kalanithi Maran and his team who has been aggressively promoting the film which does not have hummable songs on their network. The opening weekend collections are enough for the film to turn profitable.

My thoughts are the same Mels. I will wait for it to appear in t.v. IF SunTV is promoting their own movie, then it is lesser to trust of course. Btw, yesterday when watching Top10 movies in SunTV, they named Sakarakatti is in No. 2 spot. I went 😲😲😲 coz I never heard anything good about this movie and yet they are No. 2? 😕
