Part 28
'I will bring you to the streets Arnav Singh Raizada. Your money, your power and your ego, I will bring it all down and you won't even know how. This is one promise I will keep ASR because you have stripped me of everything---my family, my source of income and my social standing. Someday I want to see you in the same way,'-----Shyam's words rang in his ears as if it was yesterday.
Aaron's revelation had disturbed Arnav to the core. His arch enemy in collaboration with his wife?
Was he blackmailing her or was Khushi in league with Shyam? What was their relationship? And Rohan Singhania---who was he?
Vaguely he remembered the name of Khushi's ex fianc. Wasn't it Rohan?
Oh My God!' Arnav thought, 'She is still in contact with her ex fianc? Why? And how was he a part of this? Was Khushi still involved with Roihan? If so why had she married him?
Or was it a plan of all three to dupe him and swindle him of his wealth and assets?'
With the endless possibilities running in his mind, Arnav's line of thoughts turned into one more direction.
He had made love to her and that too without protection1 She could have his child and sue him for alimony and child care!
The thought shocked him. Could Khushi be that cheap? Would she use her body to help her ex-fianc or Shyam? Did she love Rohan that much?
Everything he knew about her rose up in protest of the thoughts. No way! She wasn't like that. She was as much a victim as he was. He was sure of it.
Didn't she almost admit she was being blackmailed?
But what could anyone possibly have as a hold over her? What was their power over her? Why should she let herself be blackmailed?
Like a pendulum his thoughts swung in favour of Khushi and against her. Every thought brought with it a bevy of pros and cons.
When he argued in favour of her, his heart felt light. When he argued against her, his heart literally cried.
No she couldn't betray him. She loved him. She had said it over and over again, a part of his mind told him.
Another part of his cynical brain reprimanded him that he was being an emotional fool for the woman who had trapped him along with his arch enemy.
By the end of the day he had drownd cups and cups of black coffee, sent away all his employees including Aman, NK and La, who had approached him for various tasks.
His eyes were bloodshot His heart felt like it was bleeding. For the first time in his adult life, he wished he wished he could cry his heart out.
'Why me? Why can't I be happy? Why can't I take a shot at trust and love?' He asked the Gods who had created him.
Without his knowledge his heart prayed that Khushi should be innocent. But was she?
The question haunted him.
Picking up his cell phone he dialled Aaron's number and when he picked up the phone Arnav said,
'I want all the activities of Khushi in the next few days tracked.
I want you to follow her.
I also want the details of every call she makes, every person she meets.
Also, get me the address and numbers of Rohan and Shyam immediately.'
Aaron agreed to his demands, requesting for some more time.
He did not have Shyam's current number. He was desperate to get hold of him. More importantly he wanted the truth from Khushi.
Should he ask her outright?
But what would she say? And how could he believe her without the facts?
At the end of the day, when he had to go home, his steps felt heavy.
How could he face her? How could he be in the same room as her without asking her the truth? How could he touch her again, without knowing she was not a traitor? How could he be normal with her?
But what choice did he have? He had to go home---
'You are home,' Khushi smiled happily the moment she saw him. Let me get you some Green tea. You look tired, I will give you a head massage. You freshen up. I will be with you in a few minutes,' she said cheerfully, completely oblivious to her husband's forlorn and distraught face.
He must be very tried, she concluded, when she did not see his usual smile. Never mind, she would make him smile in no time at all.
When she stepped into the bedroom he was sitting on the recliner, his eyes closed, his head bowed down.
Gently she touched his head with soft 'What happened?'. He recoiled from her as if he had been stung.
'N---nothing. I am just tired,' he said getting up and moving away.
Are you sure?' she asked, concerned.
Yes,' he said tersely.
'Shall I give you a head massage,' she said moving towards him and touching his arm.
'No!' he said, more violently than he intended to.
Her face fell and she stepped back immediately.
'I ---- I will get your food heated,' she said and left the room, her voice sounding dull.
He smashed his hand on the wall, the tears finally finding their way to his eyes. He was hurting her and hurting himself, because he could not ask her the truth and neither he did he know the truth.
Again he was haunted with the thoughts of Rohan, Shyam and Khushi and their connection. Did she love Rohan? Was that why she was helping him? So where did Shaym fit in?
Jealousy reared its ugly head, as he again smashed his hand on the wall.
What was wrong with him? Why was he angry with her? Khushi wondered. She tried to go through all the things that had happened from the morning.
He had been perfectly normal.
He had dragged her behind a pillar and kissed her senseless while going to work and had said with a smirk 'Try not to miss me till tonight,'
She was sure she was not the problem. May be it was something at work?
He knew she wasn't going to let him be alone. As predicted she approached him again. She asked him gently, this time without touching him.
'Is everything all right at work?' she asked.
Yeah fine,' he said.
'Are you angry with me about something?' she persisted.
He tried to curb the bubbling anger, frustration and jealousy. He knew if he spoke, he would burst out.
But Khushi being Khushi, did not let it rest.
'It is me isn't it? What have I done?' she asked, her eyes full of innocent questions.
Her innocent look inflamed his anger further.
'Why don't you ask yourself Khushi?,' he said caustically. Rapidly pulling on a jacket over his T shirt and putting on his shoes.
'Where are you going?' she asked him anxiously.
'I am going to meet a friend,' he said,
'Friend? Who? Some collegue? Or is it Ria?' she asked, knowing he had few friends and Ria was the only one he met .
'How does it matter Khushi? Do you tell me about the men you meet?' he asked her with a caustic glare.
As he walked away, he failed to noticed the crestfallen girl he left behind.
